So, lemme get this straight. They're going to honor Perry with a great big ol' Journey tribute?? Haven't they heard the news? Perry no longer has anything to do with Journey. They're doing their thing, and he's doing his. Separate ways. Divorced. Stone cracked. As in it's ovah! Do they really intend to do a tribute to Journey without Journey?

Maybe they should just sing a few bars of "Oh, Sherrie" and call it good. 8)

I see your point here. Just goes to show you how important the lead guy is. Seriously, when casual people think of Journey, they think of that guy with the awesome voice. Like I said, I see what you are saying and it would really be unfair to Schon and Cain if they weren't somehow honoured too. Perhaps they don't want to be, being that Perry will be there?

I disagree...I think it shows how Perry was never able to break away from Journey and create his own career. The only way to create a Perry tribute IS with Journey music - everything else has been forgotten.

Agreed, but it's a double sided coin too. The only reason Neal and Jon get recognition is because perry left them with the name. I mean, who really owns the name to Journey? What if Perry wanted to stake a claim to the name? Hell, he has as much right as any of those guys to do that.

And as for Perry struggling to break away from Journey and make a name for himself, well, you are right again, but why should he have to do that? You think Neal and Jon made much headway when they broke way from "Journey?" Not really. Bad English was moderately successful at best..and IMO, Steve perry solo was more popular. Yes?

I'm not arguing with any of that...Neal and Jonathan are just as tied to Journey as Perry is.

My point is, when Glee wants to make a tribute to Perry, they do it with Journey music....not Street Talk or FTLOSM. He needed Journey to have any claim to fame. So, it's not just the front guy up there singing making everybody a success. It is also the songs that he is singing. I also have no problem if you want to make this same argument using Neal or Jonathan. The only guy who was truly able to break away and become a 'success' outside of Journey was Steve Smith.

That's just not true. What about Gregg? I consider him successful and his music is about as far removed from Journey as one can get.

Define success? Rolie is playing carnivals and fairs, but he enjoys what he does. I personally wouldn't say he achieved "success" when compared to Perry or even the evil twins at Bad English.

However, Greg is the only guy in the HOF.

Just let Steve handle all the promotion for the next Journey album, it will be money in the bank.

So are they going to do a tribute to his solo career?
He is no longer a part of JRNY so it would have to be Oh Sherrie or You Better Wait that they will be playing.
It would not be right that they talk about JRNY as he proudly tells the world that himself and JRNY have gone there Separate ways.

MG, you're right of course about Espee being the most recognizable and all that, only idiots would claim otherwise, and believe me, there are a handful here that fit that description; however, Monker is definitely correct when he says that Glee shouldn't just recognize Perry and play DSB...that isn't right nor fair to Schon and Friga. Now my money says if they were invited to show, they would decline of course, leaving perry as the only representative there.

If I've got it figured it right, the Season Finale should air in June.

That would make it a 2 month season. The show doesn't premiere until next month. I think it's going to run right through the summer. Glee is also going to feature Madonna & Lady Gaga but not all three of them in the same episode. Perry gets the finale.

they had a few episodes last fall...

I agree when I think it's correct. I have disagreed with you many times. There are different people on here- Loons, Pinheads, Wigglers, Soto Pops and Cheerleaders.

The Loons are deranged, and just flat out ridiculous most of the time. They have one thing going for them; their guy is the best at what he does, so they don't lose arguments when the topic of singing comes up. They do lose points however, when they enter freaky conversations and post creepy pictures. Catching Steve Perry on the floor of Burbank Airport is a tad odd don't ya think?

Wiggler nation is all but extinct. They need protection from the MelodicRock.com Endagered species Act, and believe me, they are species, big ones, real big ones. Still haven't quite found out what the attraction was to a Wiggler in the first place, but a wiggler can consume more food than is humanly possible. Later on though the years of Steve Augeri's career, it became apparent that life was not normal in Wigglerville. All Hell broke loose in the final hours. That was a bench clearing brawl if I ever saw one.

Pinheads are just really fucked up to be honest with you. These fans, the majority of them, opened their eyes in 2008. Time before that didn't matter, didn't exist. Some of the most uneducated Journey fans in the world. Also, to go along with uneducated, are the superlatives, myopic and unrealistic. Myopia runs wild in Pinhead nation. Their superhero should be wearing a cape, selling out stadiums on his own and playing the Super Bowl Halftime show. Flying into the biggest weekend in sports the morning of is well, nevermind. Also referred to as Arneliots, it's clear this faction of morons don't know nor respect past history.

The Cheerleaders are a newly formed group of retards, a very small group, blindly following the gospel of Neal Schon. Much like a Christian who follows the Bible, Cheerleaders will advocate and well, cheer anything and everything the Blood Brothers Schon and Cain do. It's comedy really, and while amusing to most who watch, their words of undulated praise is undoubtedly pretty fuckin' stupid. Journey can do no wrong in their minds. The best band ever, bar none. The group was founded by 1 man and 1 woman, and depending on who you talk to, the number in the group ranges from 2 to 6 or 7.

A group referring to themselves as the Soto Pops, are a small yet loyal group of mostly women, who endlessly gawk at a particular singer. A very warm and loving gathering of people, their adoration is off the charts, and sometimes, like the Pinheads, they too are out of their fucking minds, with unrealistic expectations for their loved one, Jeff Scott Soto. Poor Jeff must cringe when he reads some of the ridiculous shit being said about him on this Board.

Ok can you be 1/2 of one and 1/2 of the other? I am just trying to figure out where to put myself.
I have always thought of myself as a Loon(although not a deranged one as I don't sleep with a photo of Perry under my pillow)....but Mr. Soto changed my mind that he was actually different enough from Perry and the man owns the stage...I think it might have actually worked if the had recorded some new material. I had not been exposed to JSS until I came here. Deb opened this Loon's eyes...Sooooo Deano...what is your diagnosis of my disease???

Not to mention that in the past months I have actually gotten worn out on the whole AP and Journey battle. I just now figure I have my Perry stuff that I listen to and watch....for me it's over. I am happy for the fans who love the new stuff and I think it's great that they can still enjoy the old stuff with someone else signing.

I am beginning to think I am just a purist who likes the original lead singer for any band not just Journey. The only replacement singers that have ever really worked for me were the choice of Sammy fronting Van Halen....and when AC/DC replaced Bon Scott (as they had no choice in the matter).

I guess it's all a personal preference to what moves your soul! :P
