Skylark - Wildflower

They were pretty damn good. Too bad they didn't last long. I love, love the guitar!

Who in the Holy Hell is Skylark? And you melodic rockers wonder why this musical genre is almost extinct?!

My first ballad was good ol Open Arms. or was it I Can't Fight This Feeling? Which came out first?

The first one I thought of when I read this was Open Arms...reminds me of Jr. High School dances.

Well you're the only one who knows it or recognizes it as a power ballad ...the two Dean listed are at constant war for which
one came first and made Power Ballads for Rock Bands famous!! They were both well known chart toppers ...not some unheard of crap!!

Keep on Loving You was the first song I heard actually described as a power Ballad. Open Arms came out a little bit later and then the term really took off.

I don't consider Open Arms a power ballad. Faithfully? Yes. There's no "power" in Open Arms at all. Faithfully, on the other hand, is loaded with power! I'll say Faithfully.

REO's tune went number 1 IIRC, while OA was at #2. I can't remember which I heard first.

If you think about it Father, Open Arms has a nastier(if you can call it that) guitar than Faithfully does. Faithfully has that soaring, smooth guitar and it sounds awesome, but OA has the Crunch to it, and the drumming is deeper on OA.

KOLY hit #1 the first week of March 1981. Open Arms wasn't released as a single until January 82 although it had been featured on the Heavy Metal soundtrack in August of 81.

KOLY was a number 1 also? And I apologize, I Can't Fight this Feeling was off Wheels and that wasn't out til much later..my bad. Hard to believe that REO has a couple number 1's and Journey has zero. Anyone remember what Herbie said about that? he never wanted a number 1 song. He always wanted high charting tunes, but not number 1's. Guess he changed his mind when Roxette rolled onto the scene, eh?
