NFL OVERTIME rule change

Postby lights1961 » Wed Mar 24, 2010 8:19 am

love this idea... no team should win with a 45 yard field goal in OT.. the game should be one with the first team scoring 6..
that is why the NFL rules...

NFL announces OT rule changes
Orlando, FL (Sports Network) - The NFL has announced rule changes in overtime playoff contests starting this season.

If a team wins the coin toss to start overtime and then proceeds to kick a field goal, the other team has the chance to come back and tie or win the game.

"We had this discussion for a number of years. We felt like this year's proposal -- which we called modified sudden death -- was really an opportunity to make what we think is a pretty good rule," said Rich McKay, the co-chairman of the NFL competition committee.

However, if that team wins the toss and scores a touchdown, the game ends.

Team owners voted 28-4 in favor of the proposal at the league's annual meetings on Tuesday.

Which 4 owners voted against it I wonder?

It should be like this in the regular season too.

I don't like it. You're back to a team winning the toss, scoring a touchdown and the game being over without the other team ever taking the field. That's fuckin' gay. All they did was add a stupid "if" scenario.

The other team should have a chance to tie or win the game regardless of whether the other team scores a TD OR FG. Sudden death OT has never made any sense to me and neither does this new rule change.
