I was trying to sing Who's Crying Now the other night on Karaoke. I used to sing it years ago and could sound decent. My wife noticed my voice was cracking and I was really straining on the high notes. I'm 50, so imagine someone 10 years older trying to do it. Some things are best remembered for what they were.

well, you ding-dong, they have a huge repetoire of songs. All Perry has to do is sing the ones that fit his voice of now or tuned down and skip the ones out of his range.
Gunbot wrote:By that logic, all older bands with their original singers should retire or replace their lead vocalists with younger ones with better pipes. There's a reason why old bands with their original singers, like AC-DC, U-2 and Bon Jovi can put out mediocre albums yet continue to play high capacity venues where as other groups who have switched out parts for cheap imports or refurbished pieces from other bands (Journey, Foreigner, Yes, etc.) can put out great new releases yet still be relegated to playing Indian casinos, Junior Amphitheaters and state fairs.
Nostalgia.
Even if ABBA totally sucked, chances are very good they would still sell out because people would go for a chance to see the original people involved with creating the music that fans cherish.
They won't have to ask who singer A, B , C or D is. It is already etched in their memories.
I mean, Perry is getting interviewed quite a bit about DSB. No one is mentioning anything about the guy singing it now, there is just no connection, no story to tell about writing it in a hotel around Detroit or whatever. It's not always about who has the best voice at this moment, it's more about who left the bigger influence on you as a fan and 99 percent of the time, it's the original work that is being embraced here.
That's no slam on Arnel or Kelly or David, etc. it's just the way it is. You don't get monstrous accolades concerning a song, if you aren't the one who made it memorable to begin with. Like Sammy did in Van Halen, you have to make your own legacy.

actually would be neat to have it happen.
NOTE to journey... if ABBA does do this--- life is to short not to have Perry rejoin for even a one off.

There's ways around that! Hell, once in Europe, they could go by bus or train...and then to N America they could go by boat(think of it as a vacation)...once here, bam, back on the ground again...how hard is it? Most bands nowadays don't fly anyway.
