I think the first cassette I replaced was Nazareth's Greatest Hits. That cd still gets lots of play to this day. Although I love this song, this video cracks me up.......everybody, audience and band alike, look absolutely baked. :lol:

I never bought tapes because they wore out; I'd save pocket money for another week and buy the LP (then record it onto tape and listen to the tape

)

Mind you, I knew tapes wore out because I think I killed my mother's tapes of The Beach Boys' 'Good Vibrations' and Janis Joplin's 'Pearl' albums before I was six.

it was during and after records and after 8 tracks to ,it lasted the longest til Cds.it had dolby and other shit to reduce noise. I still like records the best , but its hard as shit to play them in you car.it was tape and sounded pretty good.it was easy to fuck up.If you spilled wine on it, it was pretty much shot,i know.

Did it piss anyone else off like it did me when the print would wear off the cassette after you handled it so many times? I loved the see-through cases but the print came off way too easy.

yeah it was annoying,, but after a while, you would recognize each tape by a specific wear in a corner or something ,,,,

Back in 1990 I bought a Denon tape player for my sound system that was front loading drive like a cd player,,,, and it had the option of fastforwarding to the next song,,,

Yeah, that was pretty cool at the time...Unfortunately, it didn't work on albums like Boston's "Third Stage" or much of "Dark Side of the Moon" or other albums where the songs ran into one another.

Durable?

You are joking right? Those were the days. They would hardly ever play right after a few weeks. They'd always give you that warbled sound. Sometimes if you pushed the eight track tape to one side it would work better, but usually needed more techncial help... a matchbook or quarter. Then having to deal with the fading, cracking and warping of the 8 track tape. Those were the days.

Had to love the amount of space those suckers took up. I had one tape case that wouldn't have fit in many of today's cars. But the fake 8 track tape "stash" was cool.

There are some songs that I hear on the radio or on cd/mp3 and still expect to hear the break from one track to the next.

Sorry to move off cassettes. Hardly bought any as I recorded all my own off vinyl.

Wore the hell out of a ton of 8 tracks (Boston/Boston, Agents of Fortune/Blue Oyster Cult, Leftoverature/Kansas, Night Moves and Stranger in Town/Bob Segar, Equinox/Styx, Flat as a Pancake/Head East, Foreigner/Foreiner, BTO Greatest Hits, Rumours/Fleetwood Mac and Best of Bread (Parking purposes only!)...to name a few.

My first cassette was probably Journey Infinity, given to me by my friend's brother. My cassette tape player did eat a few cassettes I guess. That was a trick using a pen or pencil to try to rewind the tape back on the cassette.

Another interesting thread would be what kind of stereo, speakers and amp/equalizer folks had in their cars back in the day. Mine was worth way more than my car.

Every Chistmas my parents would buy me a bunch of blank cassette tapes, I would then use them to record the radio for an hour or so every other week, I would listen to those tapes all the time, I can still remember the time and weather from the DJ's. I also relied on my friends for some tapes. I would say the 1987 Whitesnake tape was worn to death. I know I melted one copy in the car on the dash.
