There was a song she said she had written, that just totally impressed, where during the refrain, the crowd just totally caught the vibe and where doing the snap and clap with the music.

A Prayer for Peace was the standout because the sound was in stark contrast to the rest of the set list. Best part of show and the crowd responded appropriately.

Speaking of the crowd...

I think JSS had more people at his show in Tarzana than were in attendance last night, truly pathetic.
Remember those half filled theaters of 1,500 people or so SP played to in 94? It would have seemed like a stadium crowd compared to last night.

And then you have the casual fan, who "78 met in the restroom, lamenting because they hadn't played DSB yet.

The ticket guy said they were hoping for a couple hundred walk-ups but it never happened. On the bright side there wasn't a bad view in the house. After an hour of playing, the crowd thinned out the point where you had Six rows of people standing at the stage and then, nothing but space until you hit the tables around the bar area.

Great show, great MR people there for support. Really an outstanding effort by the entire band.

Damn, sorry to hear about the crowd... might be Neal's only solo tour if that's the case.

I think Neal told Deb that the band was pretty winded. I think touring isn't coming as easy at it used to for Schon, at least back to back nights.

Didn't Neal's other dates have good sized crowds? He can just skip L.A. when he goes out again.

I'm 99% sure he'd draw very well if he came here and played our House of Blues. The melodic rock scene in Cleveland is pretty big.

Maybe he just needs a break. Seems like he's been doing something or other for the last 2 years at least.

Hell fucking noo! He has it going on! He shreds better than any guitarist who ever lived and he has the absolute most adorable curls I have ever seen. Please stay in the limelight, even though you only drew 35 folks to the Los Angeles show, Neal. I love you!

I was expecting some of this garbage from you... I thought you were going to steer clear of my posts? I've been meaning to ask you a couple of things:

Do you remember when Bruce Springsteen fired the entire E-Street band in the 80s? Do you remember how absolutely devastated Clarence Clemmons was by that? I do. He never gave them a call about why he did it either. He fired the entire band, his brothers. That's why he was the only one inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It was about the time I saw a pic of him in Time or Newsweek or something lolling around with Patti on a lounge chair by a pool while he was till married to that sweet girl Julianne Phillips... I couldn't remember exactly why I had stopped being such a big fan of Bruce's and then I remembered these things that were such a turn-off. Such a common man, you know? Especially the part about going in different private jets for the childrens' sakes. That too is so very common man of him...

Bruce has never been more than a Dylan, Neal Young, John Lennon or George Harrison wannabe. He's a good musician and songwriter but he will never be in their league--on any level.

This band, just like Soul Sirkus, sucks. Other than Neal, this band has one more exceptional member than SS had ... Miles Schon. I swear ... I saw that kid play for over an hour and a half from no more than 10 feet away at Frank's party and I liked him more than Neal. He's not as fast, not as melodic, but his playing has more life, more diversity and he's able to perform a solo that doesn't start out slow and then shred like mad ... like every Neal solo for the last 20 years.

If Miles can learn Neal's soulful speed runs and melodic artistry, and Neal can learn to play slower, full of life, non-formatted solos, you'll be looking at two of the best guitarists out there today. I saw them on back to back nights last year and Miles kicked his ass, to this guy's ears. I wanted to respectfully allude to that when I said a few words to Miles after his gig, but I don't like bothering these guys. A picture and a "Hey, man, you fucking rocked out tonight" was good enough for me.

PS Miles' band was better than SS, The Neal Schon Band (from what I've been able to see on youtube), Steve Lukather's band and Trev Lukather's band. Trev has a nice band. I really liked them. They're a close second. Kids with better bands than their famous dads. Love it.

I knew, absolutely KNEW this was coming from you... let's break it down, shall we?

Do you remember when Bruce Springsteen fired the entire E-Street band in the 80s? Do you remember how absolutely devastated Clarence Clemmons was by that? I do. He never gave them a call about why he did it either. He fired the entire band, his brothers.

Yep, I absolutely know that. I know everything about the history of that band. He fucked up, but guess what, he atoned for it didn't he? Yes, he did, and now they're the biggest fucking band to walk the Earth. By the way, read Clarences book, I just did. Bruce called up C when he was overseas on a tour with Ringo Starr. Bruce did call C and Nils at the same hotel and explained that he was going solo. When you're the leader of the band, and you write every fucking note, you have the option to do whatever you feel is necessary. Bruce has admitted he fucked up, and has said it was the worst decision of his life.

No, you didn't see Bruce on Time and Life then. He was pictured on the covers of BOTH magazines at the release of Born to Run. Your confused on this one. BTR was in 1975, not 1987(the time of the breakup).

Such a common man, you know? Especially the part about going in different private jets for the childrens' sakes. That too is so very common man of him...

How is Bruce not a common man? He is more down to Earth than any other artist alive! So he flies in a separate jet than Patti? He does it because A) He can afford it, and B) because of his children. Makes sense. It's not his fault Neal travels by bus is it?
Bruce has never been more than a Dylan, Neal Young, John Lennon or George Harrison wannabe. He's a good musician and songwriter but he will never be in their league--on any level.

LOL. Ok Nancy. You are going to tell me with a straight face that Neil Young can outdraw and outsell Bruce? Nope. You are going to tell me Dylan can do it? Nope. Lennon and Harrison are legends, but neither will have accomplished what Springsteen already has, and he is still going stronger than ever. Wannabe? That's laughable. Just because Dylan was his influence doesn't mean he is more accomplished in any way than Bruce.

You tried. You lost.

how do you know it sucks? I haven't seen any clips of it save the NAMM and maybe one other. That just doesn't give me a feel for the band. And it doesn't appear any clips are going to be posted, unless I missed some. :? What's great about this band is it plays a lot of music we all have from Neal's side projects and nice to hear live for a change. I can't comment on the liking Miles better than Neal thing b/c I've never seen Miles live. He sounds amazing from the clips I've seen, but Neal has way more soul to me in his playing overall, even when shredding.

Don't tell me I didn't see the picture--I had subscriptions to Time, Newsweek and People then and I remember it clearly... I'm certain it was either Time or Newsweek. I was pretty surprised at the pic because I thought he was a good guy--NOT. The way I recalled it (and I DO recall it since I was paying attention to him back then)--he fired all of them and they were all devastated. He didn't speak to them after that and then I stopped paying attention to him.

Yes, with a very straight and earnest face: you are an idiot. If you can't understand why Springsteen will never be a Bob Dylan, etc., then you are dim. I have no desire to "win" any kind of contest with you--there is no contest really. I know nothing will stop the neverending boasting--I just wanted to point out a few facts. Cue now all the vitriol and pages and pages of worship posting.

*Sigh* I know. I can feel it almost through the computer screen. The SEETHING. Anyway, I can't respond 'cause I took a break to type the above and I have to go back to work. I've said my piece and that's about all I'm going to say about it... I also disagree with the NSB "sucking" but I: a. don't have time to write; and b. I don't want to get into a shitfest with Dan, either.

I hope Neal enjoys his trip I guess it's to San Francisco?

I forgot to mention that Miles and Jon did their set with no percussion. Still killer.
When Miles started strumming While My Guitar Gently Weeps on the ukelele? to open his set, the crowd was spellbound.
Just Fantastic.

Yeah, no way that was a Journey tune, agree great song though. And Miles was great.

It can't be for Neal's album because it has vocals. I think.

My super shuttle pulled up so I couldn't talk about Miles' set right then.

Valerie has the setlist--she is boarding right now so she can post it later.

That girl was INCREDIBLE!! what a talent!! we need to keep up with her.

Miles played his own song, Blues for Miles!! that was just the coolest!
John and Miles must study legit music cuz they played a scherzo. prolly college jury stuff. wait for Val for that tune name.

Miles makes it seem so effortless--and he really puts his 'whole self in' when he plays. I think he was amused that I was singing the PB and SS stuff so much--I caught several eye contacts and smiles from him when I glanced over. very sweet. I couldn't even imagine how these evenings could have been better but having Miles with him definitely kicked the whole thing up a couple of notches. And it wasn't a gratis thang either--that guy can shred!! and solo on the spot.

I got Marco and Neal to sign my Soul SirkUS poster from the Fox theater in Boulder, CO. It has been in a frame on my office wall since that show. Marco said he wanted one! not mine, dude. sorry. hehe. While we were waiting for Gunny to bring the car around, Neal popped out into the parking lot to catch his ride. I asked him to sign 2 pieces of marching band music for my students--the flute part for DSB and the Low brass part for AWYWI. he said we were crazy. duh, Neal.

that's all I got. 8)

All I have are the set-lists from San Diego.

Miles & John

While My Guitar Gently Weeps
The Rush
Rachmaninof Schertzo in D Minor
The Wind Cries Mary
Beautiful
Sweet Red
Circus

The guys were great. I can't add anything to Deb's great review. All I know is I am so glad I made the trip, what an opportunity :D And the restaurant at the BellyUp will be a cherished memory, Hopefully, there will be some youtubes and pictures, but if someone was taping close to the stage in LA the vocals are hard to hear due to the fact there was no stage monitor for Keith St John. He was just using in-ear monitors. Wasn't an issue anywhere but LA.

Deb - I don't remember any vocals on the new song, but then again I was so into the show. Who Knows??

Even though I'd never throw anything at Neal, I'd've taken credit for it just to answer the singer's challenge and mop the stage with the Portuguese runt.

This is post is flat out wrong. Bruce contacted each member....Max stated that Bruce called him with the break up news in his 1999 Modern Drummer interview and I've seen other interviews where it did mention he contacted them. Of course he did! He's a legend and his songs are amazing. He's been out there year after year for the past decade kicking ass on tour- and putting out three amazing albums. That's not the way I remember it when it happened. Maybe there's been some revisionist history and frankly I don't care anymore about it. If they're all buddies now, then the fans should be happy.
