Which Cold Heart song would you like to hear acoustic?

Postby G.I.Jim » Tue Mar 30, 2010 10:30 am

Hey everyone,

Alex and I have been pretty busy working on the final tracks for the album, and I thought it might be good to get some feedback from you on which of our songs you'd like to hear acoustic? We're going to have 12 electric songs on the album, but would like to throw in 1 or 2 acoustic songs. If you would PLEASE give us some feedback, it would be highly appreciated. We've talked about "Losing You", "Cold Heart", and "Melinda" so far.

Will you check out our songs at www.myspace.com/jimrykbost and let me know which of the other songs you'd like to hear done acoustic? Not all of our songs are listed there, but that's the majority of them. Thanks for any feedback you can give us!

Great idea. I went to their MySpace page and it says I need to install some sort of fucking "flash player." Like I know what that means.

We can upload some of those demos on our Youtube page. We aren't posting any of the studio versions of the songs, but I just want you to check out the old demos to let us know which songs you think might sound good acoustic. I'll get with Alex on this and see if we can upload them today. Thanks for the idea BTW, I hadn't thought about it!

I'm not sure if this is just because the album isn't finished yet or not, but if you're planning on never posting any preview of the studio stuff, you're in error. People simply won't buy an unknown commodity without getting a chance to hear "the real thing." (hell, in this day and age, they won't even buy a known band's work without hearing it first).

If you're worried about people getting the full song through streaming recording programs, then at the bare minimum, you should string together an album medley audio file once shit is done - let people hear the biggest hooks in all of the album's strongest tracks with the full studio quality performances and production. Just make sure you sample each song judiciously - I hate when labels post 30 second samples that just seem like some asshole clipped a random 30 second part of the wave form from Pro Tools and saved it as an MP3. Sometimes the samples Andrew posts (and I know you're not making them Drew) are terrible - it'll be like half a chorus and then a second verse or something like that, or a verse up to the pre chorus and then no hook! Terrible.

Lesson learned if I were doing it: Make the sample count.

I'd go with Losing You., if you think you need to do an acoustic song.

The demos sound really good, when do we get the finished product - I'll save up some dollars out of my music purchasing budget for this.

I don't wanna speak for Jim, but I'm gonna speak for him anyway  . I think he wants to establish some "bonus" content for people that buy the album, rather than do an acoustic version in lieu of a full band version of any of the tunes.

Thanks for the input Matt, and we'll DEFINITELY be promoting our songs with some kick-ass demos! I just don't want anything to get out there before it's finished. I'll probably have 45 second clips, and like you said... I'd like to string together a medley. I personally like hearing when bands do that.

And to touch on your other post, yes... we will be doing the acoustic songs just as a bonus on the cd. We will also have electric versions of all of the songs. I'll probably limit the acoustic songs for those who buy the actual album verses the downloads. It's still just an idea that I'm tossing around in my head, but I'm always up for some suggestions or ideas! :D

Thank you Matt! If you liked those old demos, I can't WAIT for you to hear the finished product. :D It's all coming along great so far, it's just very time-consuming. Hopefully the songs will be finished and mastered within the next two months and we'll get to show you what we've been working so hard on! :D

BTW... I agree with you about "Losing You". I think the song would sound cool as an acoustic. We're also thinking about adding some congas to the acoustic songs. I have a friend that play's the hell out of them, and I may have him come here in May when Alex is here to try it out. We could also add some to some of our electric songs to add a new dimension to the songs. DAMN I HAVE TOO MANY IDEAS FOR THIS ALBUM!!!

Uhm....okay. I'll do it right now! I finished the third one yesterday, and will be working on a couple more over the next couple of days. So far, the ones finished are: "Cold Heart", "Melinda" and "Sooner Or Later". They are sounding awesome!!! Hopefully we'll be able to show some of them off before too long. To me, the drumming on this album is some of the best I've ever heard. It makes these songs come alive, and his precision just amazes the SHIT out of me. I hope you all have a great Easter Sunday.
