Question for Deano

Postby Rick » Sun Apr 04, 2010 7:04 pm

You've slammed a few with Schon. Of course I read the GQ interview where he says "So fuck him". But even him having said that, today, how bad does he miss Perry?

I'm assuming he loves the voice and can't stand the person. I don't think you can find a worse bandmate from 1984-1998. 14 years, 2 mediocre albums, one mediocre tour and lots of stalling to mask a broken voice and an emotionally fragile man.

You think he would ever reform with SP if he wanted to sing again?

Why would Steve Perry need those fuckin idiots anyway, especially Schon. Obviously mega money in his bank accounts, obviously happy doin what he's doin or not doin, and i would imagine the very last thing he wants is to be involved with 2 mega egotistical pricks called Schon and Cain again. End of...

Well, this is a different line of thinking. Consider that at this point Perry would need Schon and Cain far more than they would need him. Journey is doing just fine. And you called Schon and Cain egotistical pricks? They weathered 2 of Perry's hiatus' and got porked both times. I think you have it mixed up as to just who can be labled "egotistical prick". While I loved the man's singing, he is, by far, no innocent party in the unraveling of the former Journey. Until SP proves me wrong, he is today, nothing more than a reclusive once great, who simply will not, or cannot get back in front of fans.

It would be mistake for Perry to rejoin. He gets as much pub as the band does if you go by Google trends. He can continue to be the spokesman for DSB and also keep collecting royalties. Now that the back catalog is being re-released by Sony in Europe and Australia, there just isn't any reason for Perry to embarrass himself by getting on stage trying to sing 25 year old songs with a 60 year old's voice.
No one is going to disassociate him with Journey. With the band's inability to get the casual fan interested in their new music, it just will never happen. Band member #6 is in it for the long haul, regardless of who is currently replicating him on stage.

The band and Perry are both doing what they want to do. They are playing, he is sitting home and they are all getting paid for material they created over two decades ago. Everybody's happy.

I don't know. Steve sounds sad a lot to me in interviews having never performed live but one tour since 1987. Whether with Journey or solo not peforming, I think he misses it on some level horribly at times, the intense feeling you get from a live audience responding to you and doing what you loved.

I honestly can't believe that. If he missed it badly enough you'd think he'd be out there performing. Outside of there being no need to work, I can't understand what's holding him back, unless he no longer posesses the ability.

I think he might have had ideas of coming back during the Augeri years when the bar was extremely low and it could be the sadness you heard in his voice may have been him lamenting his own vocal limitations at that time.
However, since the resurgence of DSB, i think Steve sounds really comfortable during his interviews. One reason may be that after all these years, he getting verification that people still associate him with Journey and he is getting the accolades without having to go out there and perform and put out a product. I think he feels no pressure at all, now that he realizes that he can live off of his past success. Where the band may be resigned to that fact, Perry may actually be embracing it.

I was thinking more about his solo career even more than Journey. He really seemed to want a solo career. And it's not about still living off your name and past glories. It's about still being productive and doing what he does best and being creative, producing and writing and singing new music. I doubt he wants to do a tour or anything like that, on the road all year. Obviously, the fire is gone from that for him. I just think he had a lot more in him creatively and still so young when he quit. But to see so many of his peers out there still having the passion and enjoying performing live, I don't know, I think he misses it here and there, just like that radio interview broadcast showed a few months ago posted downstairs. I've come to believe it is his ego regarding his vocals holding him back from any live performances. Otherwise, zilch, nada for years and years doesn't make sense.

Nicely Stated, everybody's happy.
And I think Neal probably still cares for Perry and Visa Versa, but just to much water under the bridge.

I would venture to bet virtually everything I own that not one day goes by that Nostrildamus wishes he could still sing in Journey. But he can't ... and he knows it.

I don't believe that missing something badly will make you go for it. It's like riding the biggest rollercoasters in your youth was your favorite thing to do - but now you got older, your back hurts and you can't do that anymore. You miss it like hell, but you know that you'll get hurt if you get on that hell ride. Just sayin'. ;)

Perry just needs to enjoy NOMOTO's Generous pension fund, ride around in the publicity golf cart when prompted, and keep talking about that old time MAGIC and what not.
That is of course, when he's not busy working in his garden or whatever else he does now days.

No. He just needs to throw caution to the wind and release that album he's been working on even if he doesn't want to sing live to publicize it. Why waste all that time and energy and never release it. It doesn't make sense to me. He can get some kind of record deal on it.

Maybe it's shit

Seriously, when I was a kid, I built this model. I had a pretty nice paint job on it, but I could never get satisfied. I kept sanding it down and repainting it but I could never get it as right as it was the first time it didn't meet my pefectionistic taste.

Maybe he gets off on tinkering in the studio. Imagine that he puts out the album and it bombs. He is already an EMO child to begin with, it would emotionally destroy him. Why give the public something to compare to to yesteryear's voice. Having to hear all the "Did you hear Perry's new album, the guy is totally gone vocally, no wonder he is out of Journey".
Coward logic? Yes. A very rich coward though.

Coward's logic? Perhaps. In the end game, a very rich coward though and despite what anyone says, money is the main catalyst for the majority of a person's actions. Why devalue himself by putting out a unimpressive product? He's already been down that road with FTLOSM.
