Whether he really is ashamed or simply embarassed at being caught and the details being made public, I really don't know. I do think using his father's voice is designed to create a degree of sympathy for him. After Kanye West's incident with Taylor Swift, Kanye tried to claim on The Jay Leno Show that his behaviour was due in part to the loss of his mother and her guidance, even though he had pulled a similarly arrogant stunt at the 2007 MTV Music Video Awards 2 months before her death. :?

For Nike, it's a really smart move. Tiger is such a sports phenomenon that the public is looking for any reason to forgive him and move on. Either that or the public really doesn't care all that much what he does in his private life, and his sponsors will simply change the way they market him. A year after the allegations against Kobe Bryant, he signed a $136M contract and got endorsements back from Nike and Coke. I read his formal apology to the victim and her family and based on what I read, he didn't sound innocent. Tiger is a philanderer, but not a rapist or murderer. As long as he keeps winning at golf, he will be back on top within a year.

He might as well have raped his wife considering the degree of his infidelity. Calling him a philanderer is an insult to men and women carrying on affairs everywhere. Much too classy of a term for him. There's cheating on your significant other, and then there's what he did... wow.

It is a creepy ad - a grown man being scolded by his father's voice while he stares emotionless into the TV? Fucking bizarre. But like I said, to use your dead father's voice to try and recoup your public image is so disgusting on the part of both Nike and Tiger that it's not even funny. Sickening. If my dad were dead and someone came up to me and asked to use him in that way (eg to recoup my damaged public image), I probably wouldn't even say the word "No:" I'd probably just punch their teeth out.

There is no rational argument for equating messing around on your wife to any degree and raping her - not even in the same orbit. And right now I have no doubt there is a plethora of rock stars and movie stars thanking God that texting and paparazzi were not around in the 70s and 80s - considering the groupie culture, we would all have to hate a lot of people whose work we admire. Think about it - how many rock stars whose music you love, probably did at least as much screwing around on their wives as Tiger Woods?

Sorry, faulty analogy. Most rock stars weren't running around selling their clean, family-friendly image for hundreds of millions. On the contrary, the rock star lifestyle was well-documented and would come as no surprise to anybody. Doesn't make their conduct right, but they aren't douchebags like Tiger.

How about all of the sports heroes who sell their clean images in endorsements? To this day there are groupies who meet their tour buses at hotels and they cheat on their trophy wives while letting their fans think they are great family men. Same thing. Whether it is a known part of the culture or not (and everyone is aware it goes on in sports) doesn't make it alright to do that to your wife - they are equally guilty and equally disgusting. The point is, as long as the fans love the music or the championship wins, they will forgive virtually anything.

I think the ad is in poor taste. Promoting products is 100% about the money, so if Nike feels it will sell more, it doesn't matter how disgusting it is.

I watched some Masters' coverage today and it certainly appears that the majority of fans there (I realize this is not the general public) were just happy to see Tiger back playing. While his bahavior is awful, nothing much shocks people nowadays. Particularly, when it comes to celebrities.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

I never said "that depression and suicidal thoughts can just be solved by thinking positively" ... not fucking ever. My problem was with the justification of hollyweird brats walking off of buildings because their Ferrari was repo'd or they can no longer afford lines of coke and 25 xanax a day. What I did say was that their deaths shouldn't be in any way glorified or condoned. There's a large number of these deaths that are caused by weakness, being quitters, and being overmedicated, and a very small amount that are caused by clinical depression ... not the other way around, like the media would have you believe.

ABC is reporting that the words from Earl Woods came from a 2004 documentary, and they weren't aimed at Tiger at all, but were spoken in terms of Earl's philosophical differences from Kutilda Woods, Earl's wife and Tiger's mother:

For his part, Tiger staunchly defended the use of the ad. "I think it's very apropos. I think that's what my dad would say," he said after Thursday's round. "It's amazing how it -- how my dad can speak to me from different ways, even when he's long gone. He's still helping me. I think any son who has lost a father and who meant so much in their life, I think they would understand the spot."

Ok, fair enough. I should have been much more clear. I was referring to spoiled hollywood rich brats that seem to nose dive into drugs and alcohol and then battle "depression" issues. I say it's bullshit the vast majority of the time. But not all.

PS You thread ninja'd me. Nice work. 8)

Nope. I vaguely remember posting that I would 'mortgage my house' to see Alias perform again (before they were even announced), but then reality set in. Somehow home renos seem a little more important right now. Say hi to Freddy and Steve from a fellow Canadian and buy them a beer :) .

I don't drink beer cause it's never been natural of me to do so. Seriously; what can of night club serves beer? I drink a occasional Corona, but that's about it. I don't wanna sound like an asshole here, but drinking beer is not usual in my circle of friends.

Edit: Fuck off

So just cause you don't know what kind of skeletons Mickelson might have in his closet , you label him as a gentleman ?!

Last I checked , the best player should win the Masters , regardless of being a gentleman or a jerk 8)

Fuck Tiger Woods. He's a front runner. As soon as he fell behind after 3 rounds I knew it was over. As far as the golfing greats go, he's the worst come-from-behind great golfer ever. He's never come from behind to win a major like Nicklaus did (9 times) and Palmer did (too many to remember). To his credit, he's been in front and almost always stayed in front, but there's a ton of tournaments where he was 1 or 2 shots off the lead heading into the final round and you just know that he'll be a non-factor. He's a true front runner.

Everybody worships this dickhead and his little Nike entourage. I'd like to see him play a professional sport (golf is not a sport ... it's a fucking recreation like bowling or frisbee) and get his ass handed to him. He wouldn't be able to scream at spectators for taking pictures or talking while he drives. Nice concentration, pussy.

It wasn't that long ago, Mickelson was known as the Payton Manning of golf. He could get to the show but always choked under the spotlight. Now, his third Green Jacket in six years.

When a golfer comes from behind, SJ, it says more about the golfer that choked the lead away than the one who came from behind.....all that shows is the one who was behind had a shitty first couple of rounds and the one intially in the lead had a shitty last round.....basically just outlines the order of the shitty rounds.

Again, you brought nothing to the table.....ASSHAT! :P

You continue to be a fucking moron who is illogical concerning sports half the time (even though I don't consider golf a sport) and complains the other 50%. The bottom line is that the guy has been a shot or two off the lead and never made a comeback. If he could mount a comeback as often as he does skanky women I might have some respect for him in his profession. It's only when he's been up a shot or two that he's been able to run away from the field and win by 5+ shots. Never when he's down just 1 or 2 entering the final round. It shows that when the chips are down and he's just a tad behind he folds like a tent. A true front runner.
