MelodicRockFest 2 - Lineup Revealed

General Intelligent Discussion & One Thread About That Buttknuckle

I'm telling you all....this is the PERFECT kind of venue for this sort of thing....somewhat intimate, and not too small...plus, it's out of all the congestion of a city. If this were held at a venue like Park West in Chicago, that name and location probably add at least $10K to the event. I've been to the RH for a show, has anyone else on here? Someone else throw their .02 into the mix.

Back to show related babble....when will the performance times be set? The Friday night "roster" of guests hanging out and shooting the shit with us? How will the RH keep restaurant visitors out of the concert area? As I said in an earlier post, the small "lobby" area connects the two.

Time add my .02 cents....

Sj, it really doesn't have anything to do with YOUR so-called noname bands...The state of melodic rock in the states is appalling...

And make no mistake about it...people still attend foreigner, styx, Toto, reo, and journey shows to relive childhood memories....cause these acts currently SUCK....

you make fun of talon, Farcry, strikeforce, and Ted poley....well I have no idea why you even chime in because you know shit about this kind of music....stick to manilow, and frankie avalon....

You judge music acts by how popular they are, and how many radio hits they've had....let me clue you in on something....

Not for nothing, but, bands that I listen to..like: Adriangale, sic vikki, von groove, jaded heart, emerald rain, and crazy lixx...etc. would wipe the floor with most of these nostalgia acts you so brazenly lobby for...and the crowd would leave more than satisfied.......

The music scene in Europe kicks America's ass....a ten group melodic rock fest in Sweden would sell 100,000 tickets without breaking a sweat....

America isn't passionate about music anymore....America is passionate about lame emo shit like this gay-ass band, Spoon, that I'm trying to block out on Letterman.....

Where I don't think MRF2 will break any records, I applaud Drew for bringing these acts together for me to see, and giving it the old college try.....

King asshat strikes again.....

I think you guys are missing Dan's point. He's not saying the bands that were booked are bad or shouldn't have been booked. He's talking about what is going to get peoples' asses IN the door and get the ticket sales / profits, where they need to be. And he was also talking about the overall experience, not just the music (i.e. standing room only, a 3 day event, etc). And I do agree with a few of the points he made.

It wasn't just about the bands, Sean. It was the event as a whole that Dan was talking about. I agree with him about the 3 day thing, as far as people traveling, and wanting to do other things, but, the one point I'm not sure he considered, was really, how many people are actually traveling for this. The usual suspects from this board, yes, but mostly this is relying on local sales, *I* think. So that's where you will have the one-day goers, who maybe want to see one or two of the bands on a given day... and I know Dan will show up at 3:30 and blast me for that, but that's my opinion. I don't think it being a 3 day thing is going to hurt it the way Dan thinks. Anyone that's willing to travel for it, obviously, is into it enough that the duration isn't a problem.

But he's right about some of the bands... Farcry who? Milk-a-what? I never heard of that before you were posting here about that show you went to. Personally, I'm not 'up' enough on the headliners of this particular event to say what kind of draw they will have, though. But I've enjoyed watching Dan and Drew argue about it.

And Dan, who knows, maybe some of the people at the porno show on Friday will like Danger Danger enough to want to come see them on Saturday too?

The event is 3 days...if people want do the tourist thing..they can bookend extra days around the event....

How about a draw based on a weekend of great music?

I remember when people just loved music...and would give their right scrotum to go to a show like this....

Hey it's a couple weeks away, you all stop fighting

I think the lineup, for this site and this genre of music, is pretty darn good. And I like the whole weekend thing, since we're some of those crazies who are going to travel for this, lol, but it's also more so to see the rest of you crazies we've come to know and love  It'll be neat to not have to turn right around and leave so soon like other times. As for the location, while I'll miss the fact that we just walked across the street in Southbend, I will NOT miss it being IN Southbend! What a GHOST town that was! I swear I think the people attending MRF1 were the only ones even IN that town that weekend! Well us and whatever that convention was that was taking place at the same hotel most of us were staying, where I remember Behshad stealing chocolate from one of their tables  And it was yummy!

Now stop fighting, you're supposed to be plotting mayhem, remember?
