You judge music acts by how popular they are, and how many radio hits they've had....let me clue you in on something....

First, that's not true. Recently, I loved Start From The Dark by Europe and Revelation by Journey. Neither had any real radio play.

The music scene in Europe kicks America's ass....a ten group melodic rock fest in Sweden would sell 100,000 tickets without breaking a sweat....

Why ... because they'll go to a fest with zero regard for the actual music and thrash around for a few hours? Sorry, but any group of people that finds soccer entertaining has no credibility. Zero.

I think you guys are missing Dan's point. He's not saying the bands that were booked are bad or shouldn't have been booked. He's talking about what is going to get peoples' asses IN the door and get the ticket sales / profits, where they need to be. And he was also talking about the overall experience, not just the music (i.e. standing room only, a 3 day event, etc). And I do agree with a few of the points he made.

Hey it's a couple weeks away, you all stop fighting

I think the lineup, for this site and this genre of music, is pretty darn good. And I like the whole weekend thing, since we're some of those crazies who are going to travel for this, lol, but it's also more so to see the rest of you crazies we've come to know and love It'll be neat to not have to turn right around and leave so soon like other times. As for the location, while I'll miss the fact that we just walked across the street in Southbend, I will NOT miss it being IN Southbend! What a GHOST town that was! I swear I think the people attending MRF1 were the only ones even IN that town that weekend! Well us and whatever that convention was that was taking place at the same hotel most of us were staying, where I remember Behshad stealing chocolate from one of their tables And it was yummy!

Now stop fighting, you're supposed to be plotting mayhem, remember?

The usual suspects from this board, yes, but mostly this is relying on local sales, *I* think.

I agree. And because the show is, by and large, relying on those "local sales" it all but renders Talon, Far Cry, Eden's Curse, Bombay Black, Strikeforce and a few others pretty useless because no one knows who they are. Ask yourself this ... if they were all playing in a bar for free in Elgin do you think they would draw a big crowd? My guess is no one aside from the bar's regulars + 10-20 people. Now add the psychological factor that people feel like they're paying $55 bucks for either night to see a bunch of bands they've never heard of, and you have low ticket sales. That's my point. I have never once derided the talent of these guys. I have even mentioned a few times that I'm hoping there a few pleasant surprises like 7th Heaven were to many at the last MR Fest.

No festival anywhere in the world has headliners from start to finish. Let's analyze this after the show, eh? There are seats and rest areas and a newly opened beer garden for all, so I expect the venue to get major props after the weekend.
