I never got the boy bands bullshit. Most of the bands were always boys anyway...ok, young men.

I don't think boy bands play instruments and they really aren't bands, but they were boys ... I liked them!!

Well, I always thought they were gay. You would like them!  8)

Correct me if I'm wrong....

But, didn't New Wave do that for Disco....back in 79 / early 80...?
I was, like, 12.....but I remember that whole "DISCO SUCKS!!" thing at a Baseball game.

Anyone?

Disco does suck

Disco did not/does NOT suck. My theory has always been the only people who hated Disco were people who couldn't dance anyway.

I don't know if Disco really got taken out. More likely it went underground and morphed into "House" music and other dance categories. It was absorbed and incorporated into rap via sampling, especially in the early days.

Grunge didn't take anything out of the spotlight. Hair metal fucked itself. It had become so cheap and cookie cutter that grunge wiping it out was a good thing.

You just contradicted yourself within two sentences.

You are right...they set themselves up. But, the fact still remains that Nirvana hit and LA Glam was dead.

It made it possible for good music like the early and mid-80's to be missed.

Not until almost 10yrs later...and that is only because the Nirvana generation 'grew up' It's called nostalgia. People in the 80's had it for 60's and 70's music. People in the 70's had it for 50's music. It was missed because we kids got old.

Disco does suck

Disco sucked for the same reason that glam sucked. It became over popular. In general the music became all generic and sounded the same. And, people in general just became tired of the trend and rebelled against it.

Over done is one thing, and I can agree with you on that point. There was a bit of over saturation. Jeebus, did we really need a disco version of Beethoven's 5th Symphony? Didn't Ethel Merman even have a Disco album? I guess that's when Disco officially jumped the shark. Still...I just don't get the "Disco Sucks" mentality any more than I ever got the "Journey Sucks" mentality. :?

He said "their OWN" instruments, not each other's instruments. If it had been the latter, your assumption would be spot on.

Well, that's just like, your opinion man! It must have been past your time for MTV. All of my great MTV/VH1 memories are from the 90s.

I think my av says it all, I love Pearl Jam. PJ and STP are the only grunge bands I do like, however...

The guy in your av looks like John Petrucci of Dream Theater...Anyway, I like maybe one Pearl Jam song and I can't think of any by Stone Temple Pilots that I like at all.

Here's a hilarious Yngwie Malmsteen quote from an interview he did where they would play him a song and he would then critique it...The song is "Go" by Pearl Jam.

I am going to dig my own grave right now. I think the singer in Pearl Jam should go eat some Pearl Jam! He cannot sing to save his life! And the guitar player needs to seek help. The guitar solo is terrible -- it's just wank-off, wah-wah pedal bullshit! That's the most disgusting thing, so tasteless, so common, so blatant -- the worst! There are a couple of people like Clapton, Hendrix, Angus Young, Ritchie Blackmore, even Jimmy Page, they played pentetonic -- the regular stuff -- but did it with taste. But the guitarist in Pearl Jam, and the lead player in Metallica, they've got no taste what-so-ever. I don't want to comment on that song anymore.

Grunge brought about a new wave of junkies who out did (or should I say out-died) the junkies of the late 60's and 70's.
