Padded bikini for girls withdrawn

They Start them young in the UK

Clothing chain Primark has withdrawn the sale of its range of padded bikini tops for girls as young as seven following criticism.

The company apologised to customers for "causing offence" and said it would donate profits to a children's charity.

The Children's Society criticised Primark for "premature sexualisation and unprincipled advertising".

Conservative leader David Cameron said it was "disgraceful" but later added he was delighted by the withdrawal.

The £4 bikini sets came in candy pink with gold stars and black with white polka dots.

Primark, which is well-known for its heavily discounted brands, has 138 UK stores and 38 in Ireland.

It is the latest chain to face criticism over products considered too adult for youngsters.

Asda has been singled out for a push-up bra aimed at young girls, and Tesco withdrew a pole-dancing kit from its toys section.

Last year WHSmith also withdrew its Playboy stationery, but did not say if that was because the products were sold to children.

I saw this and was quite shocked. But what scares me the most is that I KNOW there are some "mom's" out there who would've bought this for their daughters thinking it was cute...

No word on whether they will also cancel their line of cucumber-endowed crotch area bathing suits for boys yet.

Oh good, let's make them feel like they don't have "enough" (which leads to feeling bad about not having "enough") before they even have the chance to grow up and find out whether or not they're going to have "enough".

You know, as someone who has always felt bad about that, and still does at times, I have to say this is disgusting and appalling. It's psychologically abusive, really. It's bad enough the way we project the "perfect body" image toward adults, but to start them at age seven and make sure we really get them knowing that they're not good enough unless they can fill out a bikini top is just wrong.

I wonder if Tesco completely removed their pole dancing kits from the stores or just transferred them from the toys section over to the forever21 area?

That's probably next.

The difference is, a guy walks down the street in jeans and a t-shirt... we have no idea what you got going on under there. Woman walks down the street in jeans and a tshirt.... you can see exactly what she's got going on and if it isn't up to par, then she can just keep on walking. So now we want to make sure that 1st graders get on board if they ever expect a boy to look at them a second time.

The problem is, this stupid padded bikini thing is probably something little girls will want and will beg for. All little girls, particularly at this age (7-8ish) want to play dress up and pretend to be grown up ladies, and all little girls do stuff like sticking tennis balls up their shirts - so they already have the idea that to be grown up, that's what they have to have. My sister's oldest started that game right around age 7 or so, and of course when that happened, her 5 year old sister copied her. All this does now is feed into that, (and make money off it).

I just carry around an electron microscope in case any woman wants to see mine.
But around town, it was well known...when they got home at night
Their fat and psychopathic wives
Would thrash them within inches of their lives!

I still shudder at the memory of the little girl (maybe four?) in a crop top printed with the words 'MILF In Training.'
Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!
