DSB? Don't hear that enough :)

Is he allowed? Neal only played songs that aren't in the current set list. Won't Arnel be "cracking the stone", singing Journey songs without Journey?

Ask Cain ...he delivers the cracks!!

ask Perry. He's the expert on cracking the stone definition.
I forgot, crack and stone probably have a totally different meaning for Pineda.

It's been a ton of fun man, so thanks. Hey... I can't imagine any world where Steve Perry would invite me to hang out in his tour bus or hotel room and shoot the bull at 3am after a concert, LOL. Arnel just has a way of radiating positive energy to everyone around him, especially when he sees you in the front row at a concert. On or offstage, he's just a really down-to-earth, appreciative guy who has a way of making people feel like they're the only person in the room. That's one of the reasons I don't analyze or review his performances so much -- positive energy makes for more than enough of a good time for me.

I don't think the Steve Perry analogy is a good example here. If anything, Pineda should be compared to JD Fortune or Benoît David when it comes to measuring up his character against others in the same situation or given the same opportunity as him. We've all heard about Fortune's issues. From all accounts, Benoit is just as much humbled by fronting Yes as is Arnel with Journey. Relating an experience with these three guys as compared to Perry, Jon Anderson or Michael Hutchence is just not viable.

Like Art said, Glad you are really enjoying your affiliation with the man.
Lora and Cindy seemed to share the same sentiments regarding their association with Perry. It all depends from what angle your view is coming from, I guess.

I think you misunderstood me, but I didn't make my point very well at all. Definitely wasn't making any comparisons or judging Steve Perry's character. What I meant was, during the SP era of the band, as far as this fan was concerned Journey was always somewhere far out there on my radio or TV. I never even got to see S.P. live so he was always sort of intangible to me in that regard. The thought of "hanging out" with the singer from Journey would have blown my mind back then, but in just the past 2 years I've gotten to do just that multiple times with every Journey singer since Perry. They're all still rock heroes to me, but knowing them as people now has been especially rewarding.

Sorry Chubs, but I agee with Lulu on this. I think it cheapens his role as Journey's lead singer.

Journey as the current band will only be around another couple years and then he can sing whatever he wants including Journey. I like Arnel and he is certainly free to do what he thinks is best, but I personally don't agree with these shows. He could certainly do shows with Journey and donate his share (and probably more from the band) to his charity if he really wanted to. I think we are starting to see the on-set of LSD here.

Just curious. If AP is here through early June and these shows are in July, I'm wondering if he is planning on spending more time in the states. Have you heard anything?

LSD?? Two things, the singers on this forum say you have to keep singing, its like exercise or you get out of shape and that's what he's doing. Second, I have never heard anything from Arnel anything, that would lead me to believe that he's not just a humble guy, trying to help people that are less fortunate with the small amount success he's had.

I don't think these shows are for Charity. That said, I don't fault him for trying to make money on the side and keeping his voice in shape. Journey will have him stepped down regardless. I just wish he would try some original material on these people. Luckily, the rock media won't even notice any of this as he is singing primarily to an ethnic audience.
I could really see some of these rock jocks having a field day with this at the expense of Journey, big time. (Journey singer's new gig - will sing 80s greatest hits for food). Since they're not likely to peruse the Arnel Pineda forums though, I think Journey's new cred is safe.

AP has been singing continuously in PI and now will be singing in the studio.

LSD has nothing to do whether he is a humble guy or not in public. The question is why is he so insistant on doing these solo cover shows ? Like I said, he can certainly get funds for his charity through Journey. It just feels like he continues to do the shows to establish himself as a solo artist regardless of the impact this has on his role with Journey in the states. I doubt anyone here knows how his bandmates feel about these shows.

Personally, I hope AP is able to establish himself as a solo artist down the road, he does need a life after Journey.

Cain's name will be right besides his. Neal will come out and say they had to do a few ballads or it wouldn't be a real Journey record. Within two moths they'll release a song to A/C radio and we'll all be saying Neal bullshitted us again (That is, if the site is still around at that time).

I think as long as Arnel is touring with a well known Filipina artist and it's pretty much established that these shows are really aimed at only one segment of the population, Neal has got be cool with it. He can't allow the rest of the band to do what they want but put restrictions on Pineda other than the obvious. Now, if Arnel does some sort of mini- Journey set and it hits Youtube, then there could be an issue.

Like GB said, I doubt that this will have any impact on his status as the lead singer of Journey, nobody that matters in the media is going to pay attention. And as far as his band mates, I'm sure he has Neal's blessing or he wouldn't be doing it.

Lea Salonga is the only Filipino/Filipina I'm going to pay to see solo. She's got a lot of cred though. So many people have heard her sing in a Disney movie or seen her in one of those Disney X-mas specials with Peobo Bryson. She's earned her stripes and has a Tony award to prove it.

Now, if Arnel does some sort of mini- Journey set and it hits Youtube, then there could be an issue.

I would actually go see the show, but not at those prices.

Well, one thing I've learned since Arnel came on board is that there are some great singers over there.

Great singers and great musicians have been over there for the past 25 years that I have first hand experience witnessing in person. It was the greatest well kept secret that had a hard time getting out to the rest of the world, until youtube helped with that.
I've never eaten a piece of sushi I didn't thoroughly enjoy.

But she is truly a star in the states, her list of credits and achievements are incredible!! Selling out Carnegie Hall and spokesperson for Avon (just adding to your list) are huge!!

She was also the lead actress in a chic flick called Redwood Curtain, with John Lithgow and Jeff Daniels. I've been a Lea Fan for awhile. She isn't one of those types who thinks trying to hold high notes for 10 seconds ala Whitney or Celine automatically makes someone a star. She is more in the Olivia Newton John/Karen Carpenter range of singers, although she can belt it out when necessary as evidenced by her performances in Miss Saigon and Les Miserables.

Well then why are her tickets prices so reasonable?!?!

Tickets are $50 general admission, and $150 VIP, which includes a pre-show cocktail reception.

Maybe she wants her shows to be accessible to everyone?

My fear...
People abusing AP.

Some words that I will never forget.....
-zero stage presence
-no charisma
-state fair
-pinhead

sometimes reality makes us sad, just a part of growing up.
saying "zero stage presence" or "no charisma" is hardly abuse. you like him, that should be good enough.

The new up coming Journey album has a couple potentials; people will either embrace it or they jump ship. AP will have 5 writing credits either way.

Maybe he should consider moving to Vegas in a couple years.
