We have hoped the Sony rumours of a new release would come true, or that Steve had vocal surgery so he could sing again..another rumour.

IMHO, Perry doesn't owe us a damn thing.

He has given us really great music and a big part of his life.

The rest of it is his.

Anything he decides to share with us now is just icing on the cake.

..... and I get to lick it off ----- sorry - got carried away there for a minute.

Hollywood wrote:Does Perry owe us anything? If he would just keep his damn mouth shut no he does not owe us anything. However he refuses to do so. He owes us going out gracefully. He has given more than his fair share of memories to all of us. Stop with the so called recording sessions, and the comments, and the writing sessions. When you give interviews only talk about the past and blow off any talk of the future unless you plan on following through.

I spoke with a writer who wrote a handful of songs with him a few years back and blogged about it. Then the blog was edited to omit that section. He said that all writing sessions are with the understanding that the songs are not to be used w/o Perry's permission and that he would prefer to keep them private. So there is the potential that all this great music is out there sitting on a shelf. At least let someone record these songs.

Steve Perry doesn't owe you, me or anyone anything! He has already given a big chunk of his life to music and to the fans over the years he sang and performed. He is a singer/songwriter and those feelings are something that will stay with him till the day he dies. In interviews he can talk or sing to his hearts content about studio sessions and writing sessions; it's in his blood....it's not something that an artist can just forget and stop doing. It's his songs....his words put to paper and if he decides that he doesn't want share them now or ever that is his choice. :D

I'm guilty of bashing p (I believe righteously) and rockheadedly and wrongly accused of cheerleading for the band but allow me to impart this:

Absent the third lead singer of Journey's initiative I don't feel that we would have that show in state of the art digital sound and video right now, I mean look what the hell he did with that concert.

The release is first class.

I appreciate it, and based on sales so did we fans.

My point exactly. Lots of effort went into that production and I haven't read one bad critique from the fans about it. Yeah, it's not new material, but it's the perfect showcase of what he and the band did together at the height of their career.

No arguments here. I still say that Journey, from 1980-1983, is the greatest band ever.

No band ever had a singer, drummer and guitarist like that. Add Cain's penchant for melody and Ross's ... squirt gun mic stand and you have it all. And you can't discount Herbie and all of the innovations he gave to the concert goers. Best band ever.

I can argue this for the sake of posting some decent traffic in this shithole forum(pics of Steve- give me a fucking break).

Freddie and Brian May were pretty good, and had better songwriting. Led Zeppelin are always hard to beat. Mick and Keith are always at the top. Ever heard of Paul McCartney, John Lennon and George Harrison? Yes Dan, I am guilty of saying the same exact thing you have just said, but I was sorely tunnel visioned in my thoughts. I do think Perry is the greatest male voice ever recorded sans Elvis Presely. Neal is darned good, but he isn't in the same league as Hendrix, Page, EVH, etc. Smith was great, but with the cheesy sing alongs, how important is a drummer? I mean, look at Castronovo? He is a good drummer, but hardly great. Basically anyone can drum the Journey catalog, even fucking Ringo Starr or Max Weinberg. :D

They're not the greatest band in the world. Never been or will be. Toto is far ahead of Journey musically. Dire Straits is better also better. But the thing with Journey is that, besides the obvious flaws that is Ross Valory and the cliché wedding picture songs, SP and Neal created a magic that's completely unparalleled. Patiently for example; that's magic right there. No other band that I know of got that.

It's too bad Steve Smith studied with Freddie Gruber so late in his Journey career though. Cause his drumming on Trial by Fire kicks ass! Deano, not a lot of drummers out there could lay down a groove on TBF like Smith does. Steve Gadd and Jeff Porcaro could, but not a lot more.

Yeah, but none of the acts/artists you mentioned could bring it live like Journey did. Add in what Herbie brought in the form of the fan club, the giant screens and the lighting, and you have an unparalleled act.

Anyone can drum to it now, but it takes talent and creativity to invent it. Smith brought a feel to the music that most other rock drummers wouldn't even imagine doing. His approach to Faithfully is pretty amazing. Very subdued and perfect fills. Very similar to what Nigel Ollsen did on Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me. May be boring to some, but genius to those who understand the approach.

Uh Jana, nuh uh. U2 was awesome, but as for talent, I would have to say they are floors and floors lower than a lot of bands, including Journey. Come on now, as great as Bono is, the Edge sucks compared to Schon. Hell, if you look at the 80's, U2 wasn't the best band...one can argue they are more popular now then they were in the 80's! I don't think(all bias aside), U2 paled to Springsteen, The Stones or the Police. Like I said, Bono is awesome, but you can't seriously put the fuckin Edge up against the best guitarists in music?

As a whole in that time they were the best for me. The Edge is a minimalist guitarist but helped create their signature sound. They were very original and great live act. Put out great albums with amazing songs in the early to late 80s.

I'm speaking of my emotions back then, and for that time, looking back, U2 was it over Journey, but I said it was close. . U2 was my band and brought something so new and fresh to the musical landscape and great lyrically. Amazing, great songwriting, love their melodies. They are one of the greatest bands, ever. I love alternative rock and British and Irish bands and will always learn more towards that. Now, who do I listen to more NOW and appreciate? Journey, probably , over U2 and am completely amazed by the Journey sound, guitar/voice.

Yeah, I really like U2 a lot also, but over Journey? Never at any point. Its a close call, but I guess you can hang around still!

Jana, please turn in your Journey/Neal Schon/Pinhead card immediately !

Thanks. My Bono crush and all through the 80s and 90s might have had something to do with it. I was hooked b/c of With or Without You. It blinded me to Perry's vocal superiority melded with Neal's guitar.

The one good thing Nostrildamus has going for him is that he seems pretty health conscience and probably stays out of the vicinity of buffet style restaurants. I just wonder if that's to stay healthy or avoid the vast majority of his fans.

The use of "Stephen" by his fans has always been nothing more than a screaming memo that you're dealing with a person that's somewhere between Richard Speck and Charles Manson on the sanity scale.
