My "the good , the bad, the ugly " on MRF II:


THE GOOD

* Meeting all new & old friends. Dan, Tito, SeanStockton, TadeLtVanish, mrsromek,SueinFlorida&Heather,Gayle&Tony, StevePerryLynn&(s)Melissa,BJG&Rhi, EricChynaBlue,MichiganGirl,DebInMich, CrazyDeb, DrFuLinda, PamTwilight, RipRokken . And of course my apologies to anyone I forgot... Great to meet all other bands&fans&staff....

* The Venue,,, while the standing up took the toll on one after 3 days, the setup and the balcony plus the sound in the venue was awesome. Like someone mentioned , it was great to be able to order your beer and or food , no matter where you were in the venue.Very friendly staff!

* The Hotel. Great friendly staff. Nice rooms, and great area with many choices for your food and drinks needs within 1-2 miles radius.

* The Hotel Shuttle!! I dont know what I/We wouldve done without this great FREE service from the hotel. Kudos to whomever set this up as it made it very simple for us to get get back and forth without any hassle. The driver was also super friendly!

* The bands of course. Pretty much any band on stage delivered 100%. It was great to see how these bands thrive on the response they get from the audience.... But the interaction didnt just start&end on stage. It was great to see these guys off stage and chit chat with them and realize that their friendliness carries on even when mingling .

* Andrew "Drewsky" Wombat . Great to see you again ,mate. You worked SO hard this weekend to make sure EVERY single one of us had a good time there. And you SUCCEEDED ! As many times as I thanked you in person, I cant thank you enough for ALL that you did to creat the best event of 2010.

THE BAD

* The only (minor) thing I have to complain about (and many agree with me on this), was the food situation at the event. You'd think they would be prepared for such huge event, but they were out of half the stuff on their menu,, and VERY slow.... Few examples: Eric Ragno ordered fried shrimp,,, 35 minutes later they were still trying to pull the shrimp out of the ocean,,,,, My wife ordered a chicken sandwich ,,, 25 minutes later the waiter came out and said "sorry we are out of chicken sandwich" ... They have the slowest chef in town. I use the term chef very loosely. As I said though, somehting minor

So looking back , it was a great weekend, with LOTS of great music,musicians & friends..... The seating/standing situation that Saint John brought up before the show was a valid point. but considering SO much great things packed into 3 days, its easy to overlook minor things and focus on the great time we all had . Thanks again Andrew,,,,, cant wait for MRF III !!!!

( Next time, girl, take those high heels OFF after visiting Mr. Cuervo! ) Tony finally got to meet everyone that he has only heard about second hand, and he actually had a good time! I think Tony and Behshad are new BFFs. Scary thought for me.

Even though the casino turned out to be a black hole for everyone's cash, they had THE BEST burger joint on the planet, so I won't hold it against them for swiping all of Tony's cash from the craps table!

The venue was great, and the music was outstanding. Being able to talk to any of the artists at almost any time was a great experience! I think they were as excited to be involved with this event as we were to be attending it! For the most part, egos were checked at the door and it was just a bunch of people partying together that had a common love of the music.

And for the Wombat........THANK YOU CANNOT BE SAID ENOUGH!!!! Drew busted his butt the entire weekend, but he always had a smile on his face! I think he found a little piece of Wombat heaven in Elgin this past weekend! Thanks, Drew, for helping to keep the music we all love alive!!

Toby Hitchcock has the best voice on the fucking planet.

that I find VERY hard to believe. Good, yes, but at the same time, very raw. He's got a lot of room to grow into his voice, if you will. At the present, if he's still got most of his range, someone like Freddy Curci could sing circles around Toby. Still, good find by Peterik.

Personal opinion, man. Here's a cool highlight of his voice along with some of the Steve Perry highs. I'll take Toby's because they sound much more masculine and powerful.

Nice to see a bunch of you there tonight - and a big special hello to SJ and Tito.

Man, I can't thank you enough for putting that show/package together. What a great time. For those that weren't there ... Andrew worked what appeared to be 16-18 hour days during the shows and never stopped moving. The incredible part was that he always had a smile on his face and stopped for anyone that wanted to say hi, chat, had a question or wanted a picture. You're an A-1, top-shelf dude, Drew.

I think that a few people besides Andrew deserve a shout out:

Rip Rokken ... this guy was non-stop energy and stepped up and sold merchandise, organized, drove people to the airport, and was generally available to help at any time and in any capacity. With the obvious exception of Andrew, Rip was the Melodicrock Fest II MVP.

Crazy Deb, Dr Fu and Sue (in Florida) ... these awesome ladies ran the main merchandise counter. Deb could sell salt water in Venice Beach.

Every fucking singer/group that performed. They made it their mission to be accessible and chat, sign, eat, drink and take pictures with everyone there. I think I speak for everyone when I say that we were all pretty stunned at just how available all of the artists were. I'd do it all again next weekend if I could.

I have to stop reading these reviews! You guys sound like you had a great time, much better than I did over the weekend. Although I was in New Orleans I sat through 2 twelve hour days of lectures for continuing education credits for my job. Then back to work Monday.

you must have missed the North Carolina show as part of the US warm-up tour then. They played in this VERY small venue in the middle of nowhere, and went on stage well after midnight to about 15 people (and about half of those were just chilling out). The band did great, but I felt sorry for them.

Hey, that's very kind of you to say man. All I can say is anything I did was my absolute pleasure, and definitely not without reward.

I'm dead serious, though -- Deb, Fu, Sue & Heather deserve top honors. They worked that merch table tirelessly from open to close and saw almost 0 of the bands, except maybe a few songs here and there. They totally blew my mind. And their job kept getting tougher when our table became the merch table for some of the bigger acts as well. Those tables would be full full full and then someone else would walk up with a box of stuff to sell. They had to keep track of and separate each artists merch and funds -- it was monumental.

I NEVER heard a single one of them complain either -- those smiles were genuine and perpetual. I'll post a great picture I have of them later.

Jim Peterik told me that they're touring the U.S. in 2011 and he'll "play bars and backyards if that's what it takes to get the music to the people."

thx y'all but it was a privilege. wow--we had the best seat in the house. Saw EVERYONE! I heard all of the bands, except Crown of Thorns. Some more than others but only because some we ALL wanted to see so there had to be tagging in and out.

And thanks to Rip for the emergency rations-Vitamin water and protein bars. He even went to get ice for us! A true gentleman in every sense of the word. And thanks for the Winger lesson. play by play on each song so I could report to Gary via text. hehe

I was called on the carpet by Rob Marcello however. He asked why I didn't see the show. I did, but not from the front row-he knows that is not normal for me. He also told a group of people that I was like his best friend now cuz I've seen him so much this year. He said that while I was at the merch booth so you can see what I mean by the best seat in the house. All of our MR friends, rockers and new friends came by to check on us regularly. Now that just can't be beat! Steve Price, Rob, Vic Rivera (to whom I said ohmygoshyouaresohotiloveyou), and Phil (Talon) came by WITH kisses. EVERYTIME! wow. Terry Brock popped by several times as did Westy (D2).

I would like to add that I got a chance to talk to TERJE EIDE of "On The Rise" for a while during the Fest. He was there just to hang out and enjoy the scene. He is such a nice guy and a great talent. I listen to both On the Rise albums all the time and I highly reccomend everyone checking them out, very infectious hooks throughout. He hopes to get On the Rise in the states to perform, if he does I will be at any show remotely close to the Chicago area. He has a lot of songs to check out on his page.
