I'm no longer in the doghouse!!!

Postby G.I.Jim » Thu May 06, 2010 2:25 pm

I bought a new truck tonight that my wife is NOT happy about! I bought a 2008 Chevy Silverado Z71 that had suicide doors a couple of years ago, and I haven't liked it since. I do most of the grocery shopping for the house, and I purposely park WAY the hell out in the parking lot so nobody will park next to me. If they do, I can't open my back doors to get the damn groceries in!!!

So anyway, I've had this itch for the brand new Dodge Ram trucks ever since they came out. I decided just to go check them out this afternoon ( with NO intention of buying one), and fell in love with one of them. I'm an impulse shopper which is NOT good. Well I take it for a drive and love it, but I figure there's no way they can make the payments work for me. Did I mention that it's a quad cab with 4 full doors?

The manager works his "magic" and he can basically get me in the truck for $60 more per month than what I'm spending on the Chevy (which I really don't like). I called the wife and she says "Not no, but FUCK no!!!". Well I talked to her for a while longer and felt her giving a little on her end. She was still mad, but left it at that.

I bought it an hour later... I know I'm retarded, but this truck is BAD-ASS!!! It's loaded with every freaking bell and whistle I've ever wanted. I'm getting a $250 raise in two months which will more than cover the difference, as well as cover whatever the difference in insurance will be. We'll still probably have $150 more per paycheck after all is said and done after the raise.

I just couldn't help myself!!!!  I don't know why I'm boring you all with this, but I just had to share it with someone.

She'll be over it in a couple of days. She wouldn't even go outside and look at it when I got it home, but she went out a couple of hours later and was really digging some of the features. It's got a touch-screen navigation and information system! It's even got a rear-view camera that will be awesome for me when i'm hooking up to the pontoon. In the past, I'd have to back up, get out, judge distance, back up, get out, etc... It was a SERIOUS hassle. This truck is frigging amazing, and I just feel so blessed to have this thing. This has been a great year for us financially. I really think it'll be the last truck I buy for many many years to come. I usually settle on something I don't really like because of finances, but i just decided that I wanted a truck I'd be happy to retire with. This IS that truck! :D

Good for you Jim! Nothing like the feeling of buying a new toy. if you didn't buy it, it would of ate you up inside until you did. When I get that new car itch, I can't get rid of it until I get something.

I told her she can upgrade from her Ford Explorer, but she doesn't want to. She rarely ever buys anything for herself, and she really doesn't have any hobbies, so it's hard to buy for her. :?

When your transmission goes out on your Dodge [and it will] go to Amoco and get a lifetime warrenty on it ,unless it is 4 wheel drive then they wont do it.Maybe Dodge is better now, the last one i had, the transmission went up 5 times, and left me stranded on a fucking mountain, I was pissed

Since you can easily afford the payments and you were so unhappy with the other truck, it makes sense to buy what really works for you and makes your life easier. Saying no is an emotional reaction, but not a logical one and not really fair. Since she was willing to go along with buying a brand new truck two years ago, why not now? If there were something your wife really wanted that was in your budget and you put your foot down and said absolutely not, what would be the reaction?

As long as the payments are in your budget, why settle for something you don't like? Life is too short - enjoy your new truck and don't forget to post a couple of pictures!

Congrats Jim! It sounds gorgeous. Can you post a pic? I've been gently nudging my man to get a new truck. He has a Chevy Silverado that's needing retirement but he recently got a great deal on a Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo from his boss and it's really nice. I still think he needs a pickup truck though.

If this link works, this is what it looks like...

EDIT: Just clicked it, but you have to chose the color. Mine's white, but it's the exact model that's in the picture. The only thing mine doesn't have that that one does is the storage compartments in the side of the bed.
