Christina Aguilera Video 'Not Myself Tonight' - Too Far?

Christina Aguilera recently released Not Myself Tonight and I think the video crosses the line. Music videos are still aimed primarily at teenagers and this is just nasty. I'll put in a link, but even for the clean version of the song, the video has content that requires you to be 18 and have an account to see it. I understand pushing the envelope, but this is going too far considering the primary buying audience is under 18.

Edit: There were a lot of comments online about CA trying to be Lady Gaga, so I checked out some of LG's videos.
Holy freakin' crap, I'm glad I don't have kids who are growing up with this stuff. This must be one of the toughest eras for raising children considering what they are exposed to!

For our era/parents, it was more like Alice Cooper, Ozzy, etc. I had to laugh when my daughter saw an old classic Led Zepplin video, and was like "holy crap are his jeans tight " at Robert Plant. I LMAO and said it beats your generation's jeans that the crotch hangs down to the knees and are belted under the ass, underwear totally hanging out......

Key difference being most of those bands had talent to back up the shock... yes, even Madonna. ANY of the controversial performers of yesteryear have more talent in their pinkies than these clowns do today.

Christina isn't aimed at teens. She's 29 now and her last CD was definitely adult. All of these are just rip-offs of Madonna, no new ground, and people were in an uproar over Madonna many moons ago. Parents let their kids and teens see very violent movies and sexual content. Kids see the trashy reality shows all the time that are disgusting with promiscuity on and on. Christiina is a great talent. She doesn't need this b/c to me it looks like a Madonna deja vu video. My parents said the same thing regarding their generation being more moral compared to the music and bands and acts I grew up on. It is what it is. With the internet kids are seeing way more than any parent knows anyway.

Her second album Stripped, she co-wrote if not all the songs, most of the songs.

CA may be 29, but it's going to be teenagers to 30 buying her music. Rick Springfield was 32 when Jessie's Girl came out in '81 and 35 when he did that movie Hard to Hold - they had to edit out scenes to bring the rating down to PG since most of his fans were 12-15 (like me ).

Music videos are going to die out soon, I don't think they hold much influence. Practically no one in my generation and younger watches them (I still do). Maybe once on YouTube and that's about it... and the only tv channels playing videos now are a couple of deep cable ones.


For the record, Lady Gaga's got some great pipes as does Christina. I'm not a fan of Gaga music in general but she most definitely can sing.

Talent is subjective....Christina has some serious pipes...Now, I'm not a fan, but I respect her voice as one of the best to have come out in that style of music in the past 10 years.


There were plenty of 80's bands that had low talent but have platinum records on their walls for their efforts.

I was just curious as to why you feel this way -- I don't disagree about Christina (I would prefer her doing something different stylistically with her voice, but hey it's her career) -- I mean do you have anything for Lady Gaga that doesn't have auto-tune fx or any over-powering fx on it? I'm not trying to debate I just want to hear where you're coming from, that's all.
