Sad news...

Postby Behshad » Mon May 10, 2010 11:01 pm

I just read this on the front page.... Doesnt look too good for an MRF III,,,, but hopefully we can all help , not only to keep this site and music genre alive, but to create a bigger support for MRF III down the road. Thank you Andrew for your hard work.
Even if it didnt pay of financially, Im sure you noticed everyone having a great time and giving you props, mate. Rock On !!!

Looks like we will have some fun things happening around here. Thanks again !
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Time to get back into the swing of things, with regular daily news updates to commence as normal from tomorrow – including a recap of all things missed over the last two weeks.
First however, I wanted to answer a few questions asked about MelodicRockFest 2 since the event was completed last weekend.

In terms of artist performances, fan enjoyment, venue suitability, sound and execution – MRF2 was an outstanding success. It was a joy to be there and watch everyone having a blast.
I would like to personally thank all those that voted with their feet for a US based Melodic Rock music festival, who came along to witness some truly unbelievable performances and saw the very best the artists had to offer.
I'd like to thank everyone who I spoke to over the weekend and who offered many a kind word about the festival itself, plus this website and what I do here. The encouragement and positive feedback was sensational.
I need to thank the several volunteers who helped man the MR merch stand over the weekend – couldn't have done it without you.
I would also like to thank management and staff of The Roadhouse and the sound and stage crew, all who were a joy to work with and who opened up their venue for 3 very long days of rock n roll.
And last but not least, the artists that put up their hand to participate and answered the call to make up one of the best melodic rock line-ups ever to appear in one place at the same time.

In terms of financial success, which I obviously was counting on to help guarantee the continued existence of MelodicRock.com, the results were not as pleasing.
The fact is that not even this amazing line-up and extensive advertising online and locally could convince enough people to get off their couches for a day or two.
I was hoping for 1000 per day, I needed 700 per day and sadly we only got around 500 per day through the doors.
Those 500 saw a killer show and had a weekend to remember, and were vocal enough for all the bands to think they were playing to 5000.
But at the end of the day, the numbers simply weren't enough to guarantee there will definitely be a MRF3. I hope their can be and I'll consider all options, but when you think you've done everything right and have not repeated the mistakes of the first MRF, to get less people in attendance was a disappointment.

The bottom line to all of this is yes, the show result does effect the day to day operation of MelodicRock.com as the financial state of the melodic rock scene has been in consistent free fall over the last 18 months.

I have a 12 month plan of action to guarantee this site continues an uninterrupted service for all, which will result in a few changes, new advertisers and a few new ways people can help support the site and new features and products to indulge in.

Coming up:

– A complete list of new T-Shirts from MRF2 that can be ordered by those that couldn't make the show. This includes specific event shirt and a new generic MR/Wombat shirt.

– MRCD7 – a new MelodicRock compilation. Any interested artists who want to participate, please e-mail now.

– MRDVD1 – the first MR.com DVD video compilation. Again, interested artists e-mail now.
– A brand new MR.com design. Yes, the site is being overhauled from the ground up and will be better than ever before…and dragged into 2010/11 standards!

Help support MR.com right now:

– Join MR-X. The members only section is also being overhauled and will continue delivering exclusive downloads and new previews of things to come. Support of this section has been vital for the site to date.

– Donate via Paypal. If you are in the position to of course and if you feel MR is worthy of such. At this point in time, any donations will be extremely appreciated.

Thanks for reading this little update. Hopefully there will be only positive news to follow this and I will keep folks updated with behind the scenes developments and possible release dates for upcoming compilations.

Back to business as normal from tomorrow. Thanks as always…. Andrew.

B, you overlooked most of the post that was GOOD news in creating your thread title. The financial bottom line sucks, but the event itself was a rockin' success. The bands loved it, and the fans loved it.

I didnt overlook it Linda. I knew everyone had a great time there. We have had posts left and right about how much fun we all had there, both the fans and the artists. I think by now EVERYONE knows we had a blast there,,, but you gotta get realistic and share the sad news to make a change...

But Im just passing this on as a "wake up call" for everyone who enjoys this place, that we all need to support the man. The financial part is very important ! :)

I just signed up for this moments ago :)

I'm looking forward to purchasing a few t-shirts too :)

Like most people on here, money is tight. Having 3 kids going through growth spurts, a van that needed work, appliances that died, etc, etc, etc. I'll donate when I can :)

Thank you Andrew for everything on here, I appreciate what you do and everything that you offer on your site.

I personally hope there will be a MRIII and I can start saving now :) I wouldn't mind helping out either.

WOW. Just WOW. This is disheartening. :( I would have thought it a success....so it ended up being the gate. Hmm......I know I had a blast. Music, friends, cone-ass, drunk girl, patch-suit guy, 'Good Evening', Asian Pirate, merch booth...Rip Warhol...it was all good.

Begs the question---- How can you solve the gate issue? Raise ticket prices? Which I am a fan of, btw.

:(

I was hoping the smile we saw on Andrew's face even in just passing that whole weekend was indicative of the whole thing being a good success for the site. I will renew my MR-X membership, been meaning to and need to get on that. I had THE best time that weekend, probably the best ever out of all the rock gatherings we've done the past few years, the best time with amazing "old" friends, lol, and amazing new friends, so thank you Andrew. I hope things start to look up and keep getting better and maybe hopefully there can be an MRF3 someday 8)

Paying for membership here would be a good idea too, imho 8)

i'm so sorry the financial aspect was not what it needed to be. could be because folks have taken some hits with the financial meltdown that has certainly trickled into all areas of life. i really hope things turn around, for you andrew, and us all.

It seems like with word of mouth it could grow bigger in the future? It really was like having a first one, since the location was moved and all. If it stayed in the same place, I wonder if it would grow a bigger following. Something people would look for each year?

Not to derail, but that's an awesome Mike and The Mechanics song! carry on... And for the record, I'm sorry you didn't have a better attendence Andrew. I thought it went GREAT according to all of the first-hand accounts. :(

It was a success if you go by the FUN factor and the blast we all had,,, but Tito is making a valid point, but if you think Andrew wants to spend thousands of dollars just to see us have a great time, why not pick Hawaii next time around and he can buy out plane tickets too :P

Yep! I think a good idea would be the $35 annual fee that the MR-X is, but make it so that $35 is membership here with input as well as the MR-X stuff. So people paying not only have the input, but also the MR-X access, and non-payers just get to read. I think that would be great considering all that this site does to keep this music alive! Maybe even a little higher price even if that's what it takes to keep the site alive, since $35 a year is only about 10 cents a day and that's not much at all considering!

I have a MR-X membership, but I would never pay to post on a messageboard forum. I don't mean to be a Debbie Downer, I just don't believe that's a good idea, when there are so many other music forums out there. :?

What about advertising sale merchandise within the forum somewhere, as kinda a visual reminder of what you have to offer? Pop an ad into some of the most interesting threads from time to time. Entice the masses, so to speak. IDK. Just a thought. I LOVE my MR t-shirt! 8)
