As I'm sure you know, European conservatives are well to the left of our Democrats, and maybe even the Green Party. Over there, "conservatives" fall over each other trying to find new ways to fund the welfare state, not destroy it. If that's the trend for 2012, US liberals and socialists are looking at a very good year.
