Westboro Baptist Freaks To Picket Dio's Funeral

WESTBORO BAPTIST CHURCH To Picket RONNIE JAMES DIO's Public Memorial Service? - May 20, 2010

According to the official web site of the Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) — an independent Baptist church and hate group known for its hatred of homosexuals and its protest activities (which include picketing funerals) — WBC is planning on picketing Ronnie James Dio's public memorial service on Sunday, May 30 at 2:00 p.m. at The Hall Of Liberty located at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills, 6300 Forest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles, California. What will presumably one of WBC's standard "peaceful sidewalk demonstrations" is meant to "remind you who worship that old Serpent, Satan, that your time is very short," according to a post on the "Upcoming Picket Schedule" page of the web site. The post continues, "You know 67 year old, Satan-worshiping (or at least one of their enablers) Ronnie James Dio (of showing his devil horns to the world each time he goes in public) BLACK SABBATH fame is dead, right? We'll be there! Just because the chances of any of God's elect being amongst this group of heavy metal sycophants is slim to none does not mean they should not get some good words."

The post goes on to say, "Yes, it is true that Ozzy Osbourne did 'accidentally' bite off the head of a bat, but THAT is the least of their sins (little nasties!), they currently do not do that, but they throw raw meat to the audience and encourage violence of EVERY FORM!"

The WBC web site then proceeds to list "admitted sins of this now dead and in hell pervert: 1) He hates his neighbor(s) starting with Ozzy Osbourne, and continuing down to his pornography star niece Gen Padova! 2) He hates God. Pay especial attention to the fact that he changed his original sir name from Padova to Dio, which means God in Italian. 3) Ronnie the simpleton enabled, and encouraged Sorceries: everything he was about including the little finger horn thing (he got this from his mother which is an incantation to ward off the 'evil eye') to the drugs, bloody raw meat and his fellowship with those pentagon necklace wearing freakish band members."

The post concludes: "Yes, Ronnie James Padova (NOT DIO) is currently residing in hell. When all those who worship him and his false gods meet him in hell it will be just like this: Isaiah 2:12 For the day of the LORD of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low: Isaiah 14:11 Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee. Praise God all ye, His people. The Great Day of the Lord draws nigh. AMEN!"

According to CNN.com, the members of the Topeka, Kansas-based Westboro Baptist Church filed a legal brief with the high court last year indicating that they "believe it is their duty to protest and picket at certain events, including funerals, to promote their religious message: 'That God's promise of love and heaven for those who obey him in this life is counterbalanced by God's wrath and hell for those who do not obey him.'"

The congregation is made up mostly of pastor Fred Phelps and his family. The pastor has 13 children, and at least 54 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He described himself as an "old-time" gospel preacher in a CNN interview in 2006, saying, "You can't preach the Bible without preaching the hatred of God."

Another hate group disguised as religious... do they even know who they're talking about? Especially since Ronnies REAL last name is Padavona... who is the Padova guy they're pissed about?

Maybe taking them out with an M16 is a little extreme, but I would welcome that news much more than I would hearing about these gay-bashers picketing funerals over and over again.

He was a kind, loving family man with a great deal of integrity - a hell of a lot more than these "people".
But around town, it was well known...when they got home at night
Their fat and psychopathic wives
Would thrash them within inches of their lives!

I remember going to see Dio in the late 80's and encountering religious fanatics protesting the show. It was the first (and mybe only) time I ever witnessed that first-hand.

I laughed the whole time they were near, they were hysterical.

Sadly, this is not hysterical. This is poor-taste.
They have a right to believe what they want. And they have the right to say what they want. Sadly those who are generally ignored (gee, I wonder why) lose all sense of etiquette in the hopes of spreading their word through controversy instead.

stupid sheeps
maybe that's why today in Dio official page, Wendy Dio make this statement:

"Ronnie hates prejudice and violence! We need to turn the other cheek on these people that only know how to hate someone they didn't know. We only know how to love someone we know!- Wendy Dio"

One of these times somebody grieving at a funeral over a lost loved one is going to go fucking postal on these worthless morons. I'm surprised it hasn't happened yet. But if they try to pull this shit at Dio's funeral, I could see some nutbag taking a few of them out for the Holy Diver.

Look at these two twinks below... I could see one of them taking this Fred Phelps idiot out. They are probably right - Fred is a closet homosexual himself, and religion made him despise and hate himself. How else can you explain his extreme hatred for gays? Same with Jerry Falwell... he who smelt it dealt it.

He's probably worse. He probably buggars the altar boys and Sunday schoolers. This might sound harsh but Fred himself needs to die.

Straight up. Have 'em walk through Harlem with a sign like Bruce Willis did in that Die Hard movie. Except perhaps they should wear a "I Hate Dio" shirt to the Metallica shows this summer.

I still say, if they go ahead and do this, then every rock-loving person out there should sign up to picket their church 24-7 with LOUD rock'n'roll, and organise free rock concerts opposite their church and their compound every Sunday. I'm sure there are more than enough people out there who would sign up to keep it going for 6 months or more.

The really disturbing thing about this group is that every single one of the kids is under huge pressure to go to law school. No one in this congregation works, they make money by suing people. Truly a church of hate.
Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!

I think we should get all the rockers we can find to show up at Dio's funeral and put Fred Phelps in the middle of an involuntary moshpit. I've never been in one before but I'm sure I can learn quickly.

Phelps needs to be dragged off in the night...and shown the Bible passages that talk about false teachers and hypocrits and what in store for him...and the have it happen.

People like Phelps and his "church", while relatively tame in comparison to other religious nuts (i.e. the ones who fly planes into buildings), still need to be neutered and spayed and tossed into the middle of the backwoods of Canada rubbed with bacon grease.

I don't think Phelps Sr. does his protesting against LGBT people because he himself is gay-- I think he's just a hateful person. As you can see from this, he pretty much spews his hatred in whatever direction he can. I'm not sure where it is, but I read an article by one of his sons which left the Westboro cult, and he said that Phelps Sr. was extremely abusive to his children before turning his anger and hatred outwards towards the world. He is definitely not a sane person in the slightest.

In other news, the Westboro cult picketed my city's highschool last year just because they had a Gay-Straight Alliance. All the students just did a [peaceful] counter-protest. The thing was so huge that the newspaper even covered it the next day as the cover story (There's about 2,000 students in that school, I believe, so they outnumbered the cult by a LOT)! Quite a unique and awesome sight to say the least (Especially when driving by it, as I did that day). And I'm pretty sure they ain't comin' to my area again any time soon!

This has as much to do with Christianity as terrorists attacks have to do with Islam --> NOTHING AT ALL.

It's not religion of any sort. It is people using religion as a mask for their own warped views. Nothing more, nothing less. Very sad to see regardless.

Scumbags following a false prophet preacher. I don't wish for them to die but I won't shed a tear if God judges them soon. They certainly aren't following the God of the Bible.

I wish it was that easy. Unfortunately, even though what they are saying is extremely hateful and horrible, they are well within their rights to say it. Now, if they were to commit any violent acts against the party they are protesting against or something similar, we may have a case against them. As it is, however, many of the Phelps brood are lawyers... ones who are quite sue-happy if someone decides to be violent with them. The best course of action to take around these people at the moment is to ignore them, which is of course extremely difficult to do.

Also, here's a documentary about them that I found on YouTube that shows how ridiculous and over-the-top they are:

Ignoring them is probably the best thing everyone could do, but that won't happen, and they know it. You can't preach that kind of shit and not get attention. So, with ignoring them being out of the question, then protesting them is all that can be done. So, an all out protest of that so called church is the only way to go.

Southern Baptists have always been way,way out there. Their endoctrination starts early and translates the Bible into their own hatreds. 1st of all, God said" judge not lest ye be judged. Case closed ! Some strange people ,of little education, in the south. TV evangelists also prey on people trying to buy salvation, while those guys laugh all the way to the bank. Not too smart, huh?

These folks are not Southern Baptists. They are what are referred to as hyper-Calvinists or close to "primitive" Baptists. They really have no connection at all to the Southern Baptists. They basically believe that the people of their church are the only ones going to heaven.

I'm not sure what you mean...A splinter group from the Southern Baptists? I don't think so, if that's the case.

In my day there was also what was also called holy rollers.

Holy rollers are generally Pentecostals or Charismatics of some kind, the ones that "practice" speaking in tongues, being slain in the spirit, etc.

You are saying that all of this is from,I think, John Calvin's beliefs? I always like to learn.

Calvinism, as I understand it, is that we have no free will to choose salvation on our own. God initiates it all. Hyper-Calvinists, like the Westboro folks, believe that God has only chose a select few and that he will only save those elect and no one else. Hyper-Calvinists believe the message of the Gospel is not directed to all people, as the Bible says it is, but only to those elect. Those elect cannot resist salvation, either.

That's one reason why I don't understand why they tell people to repent. If they are the only ones going to heaven, why even bother telling anyone that they should repent and they are going to hell? Makes no sense to me.

I always forget something. Converpc- Did you get to attend Foreigner's c 1992 concert? Lou and the band were at their best. I love that DVD !

You must mean the Deer Creek DVD? That was filmed about a mile down the road at what was once called Deer Creek Music Center. It's since changed names to Verizon Wireless Music Center but it's basically the same place. I didn't live in the area at the time (I moved to the area in 1997) and didn't see Foreigner live until the summer of 1998, after Gramm's surgery for brain cancer.

These folks are not Southern Baptists. They are what are referred to as hyper-Calvinists or close to "primitive" Baptists. They really have no connection at all to the Southern Baptists. They basically believe that the people of their church are the only ones going to heaven.

exactly.

As a Southern Baptist, I pray that God will comfort RJD's family as they go through this devastating loss.

Plus, if they are TRUE Southern Baptists, they will take a bucket of chicken and an apple pie to funeral for the family meal that follows the funeral. just sayin.
