Another long week in the studio - Journey are ripping. Neal Schon is an absolute monster on the guitar - there are not many (if any) that can do what he can. The album is coming along very well - rocking, but far from complete. We'll take a break and return to complete in November.

November?

November?!!!!

That's what I thought too. They're gonna release this just prior to the tour...watch. I guess that's fine, I was just looking forward to it a bit sooner than that.

I just emailed Kevin again and asked him this question. The first time was to tell him to please do his best to make sure TDTWT made it onto the Manila DVD. Remember, many of us had our doubts that it might not make the cut? I'll post if Kevin responds. Maybe he will in another diary post.

Unless they start booking summer/fall dates that makes NO sense.

The album isn't supposed to be released until next year. If they finish it up in November, then it will still take a few months to have the distributor (who ever that will be) align everything to make it available for retail.

Why would Journey need a label to tell them what to do? i thought the band operated as a coorporation (like most successful multi-million dollar bands) and they do have continuing expenses. I'm assuming they have planned on releasing a new album and the corporation has retained enough money to pay for it.

I think they are still looking at who will distribute it for them. Wal-Mart, Barnes & Noble. Target? Or would they just sell it through Amazon and their site?

I agree with you there, the industry just doesn't seem the same. All the options end up restricted at some point. I miss when you knew a new record would be out and it would be in all the stores.

Pretty good source says CD won't be out untill spring. :(

That makes the most sense, right before their tour gets in to full swing. Remember back when they would be on someone's soundtrack, even when they were busy doing other stuff. Vision Quest, Two Of A Kind, Caddy Shack, Heavy Metal, How about trying out a new song in a movie while they're killing time between now and their next album release?

A soundtrack would be great right now, it'd have to be a feel good flick with AP. I'd bet that high-powered management team would be trying to find one right now to continue the success they've had recently. Can they write another DSB? LOL!!

Very unlikely...but I don't know. I just don't know if the mastering process can be completed and the CDs can be manufactured and on shelves in a month, which that seems to indicate. Also, not to criticize Arnel, he maybe shouldn't be saying anything about it. People in his shoutbox seem at times to not respect when he doesn't want to tell something and they keep drilling him. I've seen this happen quite a bit. They've got to understand that getting him to spill something out of trying to be a nice guy, might not be in his best interests. It's called respect and many people just don't have it.

I took the first part of next year to mean anything from January to end of March. He didn't say a specific date, like Jan 1st.

They really want to release it with a clean slate, don't they? DSB has fallen out of the UK Top 40. Journey's Greatest Hits might very well be off the album charts by summer's end.
Maybe the band wants to really start fresh with no preconceived notions of how the new album should sound. This could be very interesting.
Definitely sounds more and more like a late Spring release.

Hmm, maybe SP is going to release something this summer and they don't want to clash? Wouldn't that be something? I don't care when Journey releases the cd--maybe Neal is rethinking some of the tracks, who knows? Maybe this means Neal will tour more with the NSB around the country (after they get back from Europe)... Maybe Neal will blog something...

Put this in your pipe and smoke it......if there were any chance of SP releasing anything , I would think Journey would be less relaxed about the pace their next album is coming to market.
