Knowing that you love me

Postby scarab » Thu May 27, 2010 4:38 am

first time i heard this song it was a clip of the chorus,

You lift me up if I should fall
Showing me love
When I was blind to it all
I face the fire and I stand tall
Knowing that you love me

Shared my dreams, gave me wings to soar
My guiding light through the raging storm
I find my strength to carry on
Knowing that you love me

Thought it was going to be a gospel song. Would have made a great one.
Change some of the other lyrics around and you have one of Journeys most uplifting songs.

Was bummed out when I heard the whole songs lyrics and it wasnt.
And still dont quite get the go back in time part of this song and hold your wife (or husband) when he was a baby?

Would love to hear this changed up as a gospel song, with Arnel

still see the look in your eyes
The night you walked into my life
And how we danced
And the way that we touched
Let me know you'd be mine
And how your love has set me free
An angel watching over me

You lift me up if I should fall
Showing me love
When I was blind to it all
I face the fire and I stand tall
Knowing that you love me

Shared my dreams, gave me wings to soar
My guiding light through the raging storm
I find my strength to carry on
Knowing that you love me

If I could, I'd go back in time
To be there the day you were born
To hold you close
Or to see your smile
And rock you away in my arms
To stand beside you through the tears
Letting go of all the fears

You lift me up if I should fall
Showing me love when I was blind to it all
I face the fire and I stand tall
Knowing that you love me

Ooh, someone to care
And someone to share
The little things that bring joy
To my life ooh, it scares me
We're so close but in my heart
It's got to know
I can't imagine me in a world without you
(You lift me up)

You lift me up if I should fall
Showing me love when I was blind to it all
I face the fire and I stand tall
Knowing that you love me

Shared my dreams, gave me wings to soar
My guiding light
Through the raging storm
Ooh, I find my strength to carry on
Knowing that you love me

That's all I'll ever need

LOVE this song as it is. It's one of Augeri's finest moments.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

I love the song but the sound quality leaves a lot to be desired.

No more retreads. Singing the song during a live show is fine but don't waste a track spot by doing any more re-records. It's lazy.

Unfortunately, it's the way of the future... Styx is doing it now too. Big disappointment.

The song doesn't go anywhere, kind of drags. But Augeri sounds good.

Here's REO's attempt at gospel "I Wish You Were There"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lJFoareXeI

I do believe Augeri has the voice for that type of music, though I don't think this particular Journey song was meant to be an attempt at that genre.

Arnel could probably replicate it very well, but like the Taiwanese kid who was singing "I Will Always Love You", while the voice sounds great, you know that there is just no REAL emotion being put into it, just a person singing from a script. When Ever I see Asians doing covers of R&B songs, whether it be on Idol or something else, it just comes off as so tacky to me.

Agreed.
His best ballad and one of his top overall vocals.

Stunning song.

Why the hell would you want Journey to record gospel music?

I suppose. I guess it worked wonders for Foreigner, tho. Heaven knows I've seen "I Wanna Know What Love Is" performed by a gospel choir on more than one occasion. I can't wait to see what a full gospel pentecostal choir can do with a Journey song.

It's a JC-written song, for sure. Must have written it for his wife.

Find "You Shall Be Free" off the 2nd Tall Stories album Skyscraper. It verges into Gospel towards the end.

Augeri's got a little Robert Plant action going on there.

No, I'm just using my real name instead of Gunbot. The Deano label comes from my post count level. St John has the same one also.
