Mine have always been housecats only. We got racoons around here and if they catch them they will eat them.

which way? Raccoons and cats get alone fine unless the cat is aggressive towards the raccoon.

Me too!

I was dogsitting this last week for a coworker and their littlest terror destroyed my iPod cable, my razor, my washcloth, 3 water bottles, and even UNDERWEAR that I made the mistake of leaving on the laundry room floor. And that was just *my* stuff!

I couldn't wait to get home to my cat.

The raccoons eat cats. They don't get along. Everytime I see a sign go up in the neighborhood of a lost pet cat, I know raccoons ate them. You won't find remains because raccoons take the cat down into the storm drains and then eat them there. I've also seen raccoons chase after birds that are standing on lawns looking for worms. Funny has shit watching raccoons running as fast as they can and swatting at the birds as they fly away. I've never seen one catch a bird before, but they try thier asses off anyways.

Spot on, Diva! Cats are for the most part independent and quite self sufficient which works great for some folks.

Okay, so from all the places you listed which ones had the best tasting cat?

Lorrie, I have a cat that will attack if we are not home. So much for thought that cats will not attack. These boys have not encountered the WRATH of DIXIE..........That is my attack cat Dixie. I know people who won't come into my house unless she is put up.

Raccoons are fierce. They do eat cats, chickens, small dogs... We had a raccoon tear the new siding off a corner of our garage to get to the dog food. When we caught him in a trap, he was snarling, growling, baring his teeth and lunging at us. Wild ones are nothing like the tame ones at the zoo.

Raccoons can make sounds that sound much like a cat purring so perhaps a way that they can get close enough to a cat is to make the purring sounds to attract a cat. Last winter I woke up at around 6am which was still just a little bit dark out and I could hear some racket going on outside our dining room window, sounded sort of like a chirping/chattering sound or something wierd like that. I got up and went out to the dining room and looked out the window. To my surprise there were three raccoons sitting on the top of the wooden fence looking over at our dining room window, our cat was sitting in the window on the sill looking over at the raccoons. As soon as they saw me they took off down the fence running. My cat looked at me as if to say "why did you scare away my new friends". I have no doubt that had our cat been outside, these raccoons would have made her into thier breakfast snack that morning.
