I love Madonna and still couldn't bring myself to watch Glee doing Madonna. Maybe I'm wrong and I'm missing out, but I've never watched the show.

Jana it was a great tribute. Even Madonna loved it.
The show is about every microcosm of high school and beyond and what it feels like to be the geek, the jock the cheerleader the nerd and everything in between. It's well written, acted and produced. The musical numbers are innovative and fresh.
As for autotuning, nothing being produced these days isn't autotuned, so don't let the words of others who've probably never seen the show tell you it's good or bad.
Yes, it's not for everyone, because some people don't want to go beyond what they know or try to understand another person's perspective.

Hate to break this to ya'll, but if you think Idina Menzel and Lea Michelle NEED to be autotuned, you're wayyyyyyy off base. Either of those two (along with many others in that cast) can sing the shit out or pretty much anything they're given. Now perhaps the producers DO use it to give the songs a "modern sound " (which I agree is completely useless) but make no mistake- many of these trained theatre folks don't need MICROPHONES , much less autotune.

Exactly. There are some really incredible singers on that show and if the auto-tune is overexaggerated at times it's meant to be, because they can use auto-tune without you ever know it it's been used. If you hear it, it was meant to be heard.
Lea Michelle has PERFECT pitch, and people like Kristin Chenoweth, Idina Menzel, Matthew Morrison, and a majority of the actors playing the high school kids are increidlbe. They're touring right now and the what you hear live is the real deal. AND, Glee is teaching lessons about tolerance and difference all the while proving just how neccesary music programs in our schools are. Any musician who can't get behind that message needs a reality check.

Show me something genius from her, serious request. All I've heard from her is the pogo stick song and maybe one other. Sounded like derivative 2000s dance crap to me. Enlighten me.

She's doing something right. One of her videos I watched had over 44 million hits on it and one had over 215 million hits. That is wow.

Show me something you think is good. I'm open-minded. All I'm saying is the stuff I've heard has not made me want to go anywhere near a YouTube search page to enter her name.

I like club music, so appreciate her. I love Bad Romance.
I grew up on Madonna. You won't much like it. And everything is derivative, rock especially. She definitely has brought her own unique spin to it and in many respects is ahead of instead of behind the curve on club music, much like Justin Timberlake's Future Sex/Love Sound at the time. I've heard enough club music that is repeat of other music with no great hooks, and Christina Aguilera's new CD, save the ballads, may end up being like that.

This sort of thing done all the time in the movie industry. New Line releases a ninja movie, and then Corolco releases one to capitalize on the novelty. Soon, you have every studio releasing ninja/martial arts films.....same with autotune, and it's derivatives....Cher wasn't the first, but she was the springboard for all the current garbage that uses it....Roger Troutman was the first I heard with, ' I wanna be your man' in the early 80s....now every producer releases autotune songs to capitalize on a current FAD. Funny, you don't hear any of this trickery in melodic rock.....

I have the songs I like of hers downloaded. Many I wouldn't relate to nor like for me. But she's talented and has her finger on the pulse of that genre and her generation. I'm sure she will keep evolving.

Also her piano-only version of Poker Face shows that she's got the pipes.
