Best Cain or Schon-written song for another artist?

There's some great material on the Freight Train Heart album, but that one might be the best of the bunch--and the live version was even better.

The title track from Barnes' Working Class Man album may well be the most successful song written by members of Journey done by an outside artist. I'd be very surprised if any others came close to this one.

Speaking of songs written by Journey alumn...there was an album that was around '88 or 89 mentioned here a few months back (maybe more). I think Neal and Smith played on it too - does anyone recall the album? I was looking back through old posts but couldn't find where it was mentioned.

Well, for rarity, Just If I was an album with Neal and Mike Reno of Loverboy. Don't know about Smitty, but don't think so...I think this album was earlier than what you're asking.

Half way through the recording session, drummer Mickey Curry announced that he had to leave since he committed in advance to a Hall & Oates session. Curry had warned Adams about his limited availability that day. The recording session for “Heaven” was running behind schedule and Adams called Journey drummer Steve Smith. Smith happened to be in New York at the time and he filled Curry’s drumming position.

It was only Cain that worked on "This Could Be The Night". They had already written the song, but they just needed help polishing it up and Cain helped them finish it.

Yeah, the two Storm albums are brilliant. Eye of the Storm is the better of the two in my opinion. I've never heard Kevin Chalfant sing as well as does on those two records.

Of course, the two Bad English albums are stunning too. I love Tough Times Don't Last, The Restless Ones, Price of Love, Straight to Your Heart, and Rebel Say a Prayer in particular.

Oddly, I don't think there's any Bad English songs that instantly remind me of Journey (but maybe that's just me). Does anyone else hear a strong Journey influence in any of Journey's songs? Any tracks that could have been on a Journey record?

No surprise......I'm partial to the original also. But really like Triumph's (a little edgier) version too, and Gil does a good job on the vocals there.

There are a few here and there (chorus of Rebel Say a Prayer seems to stand out a bit if memory serves)....but everything is masked by a very strong John Waite vocal phrasing. Love him or hate him, he has a very...unique way of singing, and doesn't really sound like anybody else out there. Lose that and replace it with a very Motown-influenced Perryish vocal feel, and you'd hear a bit of Journey in places.

If you were talking about all Journey members, I would say the two Storm albums are the best, by a long ways.

I'd take Bad English over The Storm, except the best song out of them is definitely "I've got a lot to learn about love".
