Tipper and Al Gore Separate

Postby Jana » Wed Jun 02, 2010 3:44 am

I'm stunned. How does a couple make it 40 years, seemingly happy, and now divorce? They looked like one of the few happy ones. I guess not. And Hillary and Bill are still tickin'.

ASHVILLE, Tenn. - Former Vice President Al Gore and his wife, Tipper, are separating after 40 years of marriage.

According to an e-mail circulated among the couple's friends and obtained by The Associated Press on Tuesday, the Gores said it was "a mutual and mutually supportive decision that we have made together following a process of long and careful consideration."

Gore spokeswoman Kalee Kreider confirmed the statement came from the Gores, but declined to comment further.

Al Gore lost the 2000 presidential election to Republican George W. Bush. He has since campaigned worldwide to draw attention to climate change, which in 2007 led to a Nobel Peace Prize and an Oscar for the documentary "An Inconvenient Truth."

The Gores crafted an image as a happily married couple during his eight-year stint as vice president in the 1990s and a presidential candidate in 2000. They famously -- and publicly -- locked lips at the 2000 Democratic National Convention where Al Gore was nominated as the Democratic presidential nominee that year. Here's video of that moment:

The image of their warm relationship stood in sharp contrast to the Clinton marriage rocked by Bill Clinton's affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky, a scandal that hung over Gore's own presidential campaign.

Al Gore at the time said his wife was "someone I've loved with my whole heart since the night of my high school senior prom."
Tipper Gore was a co-founder in 1985 of the Parents Music Resource Center, which pushed for parental warning labels on music with violent or sexually explicit lyrics. The group drew the ire of musicians ranging from Dee Snider of Twisted Sister to Frank Zappa, who said warning labels were unnecessary and a danger to freedom.

Tipper Gore later became friends with the late Zappa's wife, Gail, and played drums and sang backup on daughter Diva Zappa's album in 1999.

The Gore's have four adult children, Karenna, Kristin, Sarah and Albert III.

Friends say no affair:

WASHINGTON — Former Vice President Al Gore and his wife, Tipper, are telling friends they "grew apart" after 40 years of marriage and there was no affair involved.

According to two long-time close associates and family friends, the Gores say they are separating amicably. Their decision came after a "long process of careful consideration," said one of the associates.

They both spoke on condition of anonymity.

The associates said the Gores, over time, had carved out separate lives, with the former vice president on the road frequently. One of the associates said: "Their lives had gotten more and more separated.

Politicians are great at hiding things...... right? I thought they just bought a big house somewhere? So either she waited for that closing, or maybe the house was for her to live in.

Not lame if his rap album contained a remake of the "ode to Tipper Gore" on it

Yep ...the only reason Hill and Bill are still together is for Hill's future on the Hill!! It's

Not me. I believe she deeply loves him, sometimes to her detriment. Though I believe their love of politics is their shared passion and what holds them together. Two brilliant people.

I don't think the love goes away ...I do not see a couple IN LOVE!!
I do see a great deal of shared love for their child and for each other's physical well being!!

Funny how women do that. No matter how bad the guy is, or what he does, they're the last ones to see it, even when they're told over and over - I mean, the whole country saw it... and that had to be the most humiliating thing for her, but I do think part of Hilary's mode of operation was career. If it weren't for that angle, I think she may have done what she should have done and booted him.

Ah, the obgliatory Al Gore Internet and Global Warming quips...

I don't know, I don't figure him for that type - could be - because you never really know what goes on between two people, but I think when you separate after that long... likely things haven't been great for quite some time. With Bill and Hill, I think it was less of a surprise, even without the Lewinsky thing - where there's smoke there's usually fire, and he'd been accused of some things before all that, so that one - not a big shock.

She's a junkie/Alcoholic/manic depressive anyway. Too busy telling musicians what not to say in their lyrics while the son is busy loading up on faux prescriptions through the internet.

Better question is...what took so long?

How could anyone survive that many years with such a obnoxious, nerve grating, self-serving, money grabbing, greasy-haired slime ball?

I'm guessing Tipper wouldn't dare let her hair get greasy. Otherwise I'm thinking the same thing.

BTW, whoever would prefer to be called "Tipper" over Mary or Elizabeth ought to be kicked square in the persimmons. And I'm sure she has a pair tucked in there somewhere.

Even SHE wouldn't fall for his "Global warming" bullshit!  She was probably embarrassed by the fact that they live in non-energy efficient mansions, drive in huge motorcades and fly private jets all over the world all while condemning global warming. It disgusts me to think how much money he's swindled out of people over his lies. :?
