Facebook is the internet version of crack!!!

Postby G.I.Jim » Thu Jun 03, 2010 5:04 am

Damn,

I got on Facebook a few days ago, and I am AMAZED at how many people I forgot about over the years. I've been getting tons of friend requests from people I haven't talked to in 20 years! It's so cool for me, because I left my hometown back in 1993 for the military, and haven't looked back since. I'm 2700 miles from where I grew up. I haven't had ANY communication with them this entire time. There were a few friends that I called for the 1st year or two, but after that... naddda.

Are any of you experiencing this at all? I've gotten so homesick over the last couple of days that it's driving me CRAZY!

You'll get over it. When you get asked to join various causes or start getting scripture posted on you wall, you'll shorten your friends list real quick.

I just went through this the other day. A friend I grew up around the corner from found me through another friend's wall. Then I started looking at who her friends were and they were all old school friends. Then I saw my psycho ex sister in law and thanked myself for making it almost impossible to contact me or get access to my stuff. I would get in touch with some of them but for the most part, I don't want to be found by everyone. It was nice to see how everyone turned out though.

No kidding.

I spend half my FB time hiding and ignoring crap.

And at least I have the decency to only publish the game garbage to others who play them.

I'm a pretty considerate Facebooker. I keep the statuses semi-entertaining and I don't bug people with stupid posts about how I'm the Squash Master of the World in Farmville. (even though I *AM* the Squash Master of the World!)

I keep it simple, I don't friend co-workers unless we are REALLY FRIENDS as in hang out together and do things other then see each other at the job. I only have two friends from work that fall under that criteria so that list is obviously short. I also don't friend people I have never met in real life. If I can't be sure what kind of people are going to be introduced to my world from yours, I'd rather not deal with it.

I do NOT add co-workers or any of their families. One guy's wife tried to add me. Nope, nothing doing.

I used to have the rule about only people I have met or know in real life, but I broke that rule for a few of you - I think I have about 3 or 4 of you on there that I have not met yet, but I trust that y'all are good peeps or I wouldn't have added you.

I have a handful of people who are strangers and are just there for some game stuff, but those people are locked out of viewing my profile and photos and stuff.

The three of us who work together are not connected to any one else in the office on FB. We made a ground rule that if one of us tries to add in other people from work, the other two will de-friend and cut our group to two.
Childish? Yes but it's worked for us so far.
