Journey? Nope! It's all about Glee now

Postby Don » Sat Jun 05, 2010 5:25 am

This is how the younger generation will remember these songs when they hit our age.

You want retreads, Neal? You, Steve and Jon have got them in spades. They're even making their own videos now.

Though a moneymaker, this isn't one of Azoff's ideas. This falls completely on the shoulders of the three songwriters. It doesn't bother me, though. They need to make money while the sun shines and the licensing involved with this is helping them do it. The publicity of having their songs on Glee is even starting to shadow Arnel's youtube story now. No one even mentions that anymore, it's all about the songs themselves. The band itself has become a secondary player here (and that includes Perry too, to a degree). The old adage, it's the song, not the singer is in full effect.

When those critics labeled this music as commercial, they could have never known how true that would turn out to be, just not in the way they were defining it.

I'm physically ill. They have destroyed all that was stunning about Faithfully, a power rock ballad about a rocker on the road, weary, longing for his love, to a tepid pop song with bland vocals -- no, I take that back, horrendously bland vocals on this song.

It's so bad, it's funny. That's what make Glee so endearing. The show doesn't take itself seriously at all. It's pure, over the top, schmaltz with enough sap to cause a mouthful of cavities simply from viewing it.

They need to do a version of Tiny Bradshaw's "Train Kept A-Rollin". The song has been covered many times but a rendition by the Glee cast would seem somehow appropriate, especially when you consider the title of the song.

But the singing was bad. The clips I've seen b/f of songs on Glee at least the vocals were good even if cheesy show and delivery. These were bland vocals for the guy and awful vocals by the girl. They are performers and supposed to be singers.

Read the comments below the video, quality vocals do not seem to be an issue with the viewing demographic. Anything close to Hilary Duff is going to be good enough.

I don't know. I kind of prefer these over the re-records. At the very least, they are definitely different. Neal did mention something about reinventing Journey, right?

It's only one more show and then they'll move on from Journey. Some other band can be their inspiration next season (hint, hint  Chicago).

I'm glad I've moved on from Journey. This is embarrassing.

I'm also extremely ashamed of the kids today for liking this bullshit.

There was a link to a Glee version of "Any Way You Want It" for a Glee concert. That was so horrid that I don't even want to post the link.

It's as if "The Back Street Boys + a few girls" did a 'reimagine' of Journey songs. Simply horrible.

Is it cheesy? Of course, that's what that show is all about. But, they may as well sing the songs as anyone. They have a huge national following, which is getting the songs out there, and hopefully finding new Journey fans while reminding others exactly what we had back in the day.

As for the comments below the video, I find it interesting that there are folks trying to push Arnel and 'his' version of the song on Revelation.

I would rather listen to Arnels version on repeat all day if it meant I never had to hear that faggot ass glee version.

I've even gone to videos of the original Faithfully, don't stop believing etc and see Glee fangirls dissing the original.

I'm not old either, so this isn't the ol' "back in my day........we walked uphill in snow backwards and naked" syndrome. I'm only 21, but I hate the faggots of my generation. Jesus Christ on a stick.

Being one of those old yanks (actually, a Canuck if by yanks you mean Yankee  ), I agree with this ^^^. Geez people are sure protective of this band  . Maybe someone should post a link to this thread in the YT comments so we can educate these youngsters about 'our' music. .

This Canuck didn't like it either. And quickly hopped on youtube to have a listen to the original. Wow after listening to that, thought how sad that this generations kids will never experience a voice quite like that. :( What a VERY unique tone and powerfully soulful voice Perry had......friggin' amazing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9r52C9IR7D4

I posted this on the YouTube page - I'm sure it will get bashed, but who cares.

Glee is so fucking gay, and anyone who watches it is gay. These talentless fucks are taking credit for Journey's music, and a whole generation will think these gay fuckers are the ones who made the songs.

This made me nauseous to listen to. It sounded like the fucking chipmunks singing it.
