When was the last time we had a newbie in here?

I scan through the topics and maybe read in detail about 1 in 20 of them. The vast majority of threads seem to comprise a lot of in jokes and banter that newbies might feel intimidated by. Even the few serious threads usually degenerate into the same stream of one line quips and jokes. That isn’t a criticism as it’s what keeps the forum active, but it does make it difficult for newbies to dip their toe in the water.

I agree with this. It's the same jokes over and over and over and over and over. Nothing wrong with joking around and all, I mean naturally we all do it, and we get carried away, but some dead horses do get beaten out damn fast. And I think newbies probably just don't care about that stuff when they're looking for something they can participate in.

And the other thing about threads degenerating is true too and we all know it, and have all had hands in it. Sometimes you actually do want to have an actual discussion, and you're lucky if you get 4 real replies before a friga joke, a gay sex joke or some inside joke that few people even get pops up and takes over. I'm not criticizing either, cuz, well, we all know I've done it too (well, maybe not the gay sex jokes... )

Hell, even THIS topic is repetative. We've had this one out more than a few times that I recall. So I guess the cycle continues... LOL... Viva La Friga!

That just happened to me yesterday... was watching Family Guy, the one where they all drink a bunch of Epicac and try to see who can hold out the longest without throwing up. Seen that 100 times yet it keeps getting funnier.

I know you're joking but maybe people are hesitant to join because this place is like a club/family and it's hard to just jump in. I've been here for a long time and I don't feel like I fit in :p

That, and maybe the forum is hard to find? A lot of people heard about MR and joined because of the whole Journey thing but now that BackTalk is gone and Journey's not doing much, maybe this site doesn't get as much mention on other Journey forums/sites.

What are you talking about Sarah? Of course you fit in here! As far as newbies go, if they can't handle this forum in it's current state... they really need to get out a box of crayons. This board used to be extremely hostile, but it's become much more laid back. I hope we get some new personalities in here, so if you're out there lurking... Jump in! There's nothing to be afraid of except Stevew2 on a weekend night...

I didn't mean it's hostile so much as it's just full of inside jokes and things like that. Regulars here know each other in person too, and it's hard to break into that.
