He should have immediately opened a line of communication with Bobby Jindal and been there within 36 hours to survey the damage and get a firsthand look. He should have then accepted help from the Dutch, purchased (later to be reimbursed by BP) the 42,000 feet of boom that Packgen is capable of manufacturing daily and made every attempt to not let that oil reach the shore. Instead, he did nothing.
"Four weeks ago, in four days, Packgen manufactured 80,000 feet of boom, though neither the government nor BP had placed any orders for boom with his company."
I hope somebody keeps an eye on all the claims, you know everybody and their brother is now a shrimper or fisherman or something related to this. The claims need to be backed up with prior year tax returns or a paycheck stubs before anyone collects a dollar.
The other kick in the ass is now The Won has laid off another 120,000 jobs with his drilling moratoriam for 6 months.

Except that the system we have now does NOT WORK, and the new plan will save money in the long term. NOT the same thing, at ALL.

Twenty-twenty hind sight. He was IMMEDIATELY assured that the spill would be insignificant and that the perpetrators, BP, had it well under control. People started putting boon out immediately and I haven't heard anything about there being a shortage.

The people that Katrina affected were given a one week warning and president Bush wasn't given a break for their idiocy. Besides, I remember hearing "immediately" that this leak was something that was gonna take months to fix. Hindsight has nothing to do with this. People knew this was going to be an ecological disaster from day 1.

So because many foolishly lingered behind, and didn't accept precautionary warnings and leave(mind you many don't have cars or a dollar to their name), that forgives the Federal Government's half assed response post storm? You mean to tell me that just because Bushie wanted an evacuation, that because people didn't heed his advice, no water, food or health services could be deployed after Katrina hit? Think back to people not having a bottle of water...or a bite of food, and people dying right on the street. It's disgusting what the Feds did not do post storm, regardless of who didn't evacuate. It's still the American people who suffered a tremendous fate, and it was largely because the Federal effort was so piss poor, people in a 1st world country died. Congratulations on defending the worst ever natural disaster relief effort. How can anyone be proud of Bush and Brownie is beyond me.

they acted as quickly as they could given the information they received from the State G ...there-in lies the majority of
the blame!! The people without transportation were offered transportation ...everything w/wheels and wings were being sent in from all over the state, some chose to take the ride others didn't. That window of opportunity was only available as long as it was safe for the drivers/people being brought in to help. Bottles of water, my ass ...many of those people only cared
about the shopping sprees they were going to take in light of their recently evacuated city!! There was help, there was free shelter, food, clothing and everything they needed for themselves and their loved ones in upstate LA, for a fact...they just had to say, OK!! The owner of my company personally flew his plane back and forth, back and forth, back and forth until there was noone else to bring ...and the window was still open!! One can only help people who are willing to help themselves ...the exceptions being THE SICK, THE ELDERLY, THE CHILDREN, THE ANIMALS!! I am FURIOUS as hell about the sick, the elderly, the children
and the animals ...I would like to know why our local government didn't take care of it's hospitals and senior citizens IMMEDIATELY!! I'm willing to bet that if the people on the oil rig had a weeks notice that the rig was going to blow,
their asses would have been on a boat before you could say "kaboom" ...![]()

Coug,
I recall the crack rescue squad from Canada, the best in the world, being in boats in New Orleans saving American souls before any American piece of equipment. The US Fed Gov't took the dick on Katrina. This is the United fucking States. People should not die because of a storm. This isn't Guatemala. Now I do agree that many who only desired to exercise in the form of looting are assholes, but not everyone was Hell bent on doing that. We will have to agree to disagree on this one. I was embarrassed for America during Katrina.

I didn't lose shit. I disagree with you, Coug and even 7 on this. Yes, the state shares the blame, Gov. Blanco fucked up by not calling in the Guard. Nagin too fucked up by not using the buses and refusing the three Amtrak train sets offered to him for free. However, the POTUS is the end of the line. he must share in the epic failed RESPONSE. Whether or not BVlanco and Nagin fucked up PRIOR to this storm, the POTUS has a responsibility to do whatever he can, see FEMA, to ensure the safety of the American people. FEMA is an Federal emergency program, at the sole discretion of the President. You going to tell me Brownie did a good job? And if you're answer is "yes," then why did Dubya fire his worthless ass a week later? The blame goes all around here, but to say Bush is without is flat out wrong.

Oh you know what the fuck I mean. After the storm cleared, people sat and perished in wheelchairs and on sidewalks. They survived the actual storm, and died in the aftermath, due to flat out neglect and incompetence. Funny how you Cons always shoot down the Fed Gov't unless one of your own is at the helm. He failed miserably, and the history books will reflect that.
