I would imagine that the soundtrack of this documentary would be Journey songs. Wouldn't that mean that the producers would have to have SP's ok to use those songs, just as in the Sopranos, Glee, etc.? I find it hard to believe that he would give them permission for this. Am I misunderstanding something here?

Can they use the re-treads???

I still don't get how those were done....but if they can do that I would assume they can
use them in a documentary.

The film producers need to negotiate a license with the songwriters. Since Schon and Cain are in the film, the only one who will probably require compensation is Perry. Since this movie has been struggling to find financial backing already, I'd be curious to see if the band pays Perry out of their own pockets to get his permission.
If Don't Stop Believin' is going to be included as part of the title of the film, that could be a big issue.
Of course all this should have been done at the beginning of the production and may have very well been ironed out already. I think one way around some of the issues would be for Nomota to release the movie themselves. A bit of financial risk though and Perry has to be compensated regardless. That may get around the permission issues though.
Either way, the sixth member of the band will still "be getting paid like a motherfucker." Schon can only blame himself here. If you want to keep promoting the past over the present then you'll have to keep paying the piper.

Using music in Video format requires unanimous permission from the songwriters, regardless of who is singing the song or if it's live or an recording from the studio. It's not the same rules as those governing audio covers where you just have to make compensation.

I'm sure this late in the game, everything has been worked out already. Perry for one seems to be very happy these days, judging by his demeanor in his interviews of late.

Yeah, I was just curious about it, and thinking it might be one reason that this thing never sees the light of day.

It's one reason I think it may very well be included as a pack-in disc, to avoid a lot of the legalize. One thing I noticed as of late is that Schon isn't running smack about Perry anymore. Seeing as the band's way forward seems to be through their past, all parties are wise to just put differences aside in the interest of the great financial gain they are enjoying at the moment.

The joke is on Journey. Nomato IS smack, a slam against Perry. They should have renamed it Nomohits, because without Perry, they haven't done shit, nada. Maybe it's just a coincidence, I'm not sure.

They've done a helluva lot more than "mr. sitonmyass" in the past 14 years.
Just sayin'...
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

Touring the same set list year after year? Impressive.

They both put out the same number of hits though haven't they? It ook Journey 3 1/2 albums to equal the output of hits Perry had, who sat on his ass; 0.

Well Mr. Sitonmyass....seemed to do it well with the remasters of the songs that "they" are singing.

It seems he is working on the Legacy sound that Neal was looking for.

Walked into a casino yesterday and my ears perked up. The music being played was "Where Did I Lose Your Love". Maybe they're not hits but the music does get played including on Sirius.

The power of Muzak. The play every radio release off of of ROR and Street Talk every day in the supermarkets. Maybe it's a cheaper rate for them to play the non A-titles.
