David Lee Roth performed VH material on his solo tours (so did/does Sammy).
Dianna Ross performed Supremes material on her solo tours.
Dennis DeYoung performed Styx material on his solo tours.
Stevie Nicks did it minus the Mac. Don Henley did it without the Eagles.
Michael McDonald performs Doobie Brothers material on his solo tours.
So does Dion (minus the Belmonts) and Frankie Valli (minus the Four Seasons).
Anyone ever heard of Paul McCartney, for Christ's sake???
Phil Collins made the decision to not cross his material with Genesis material while on tour. His solo career was just as successful, so there was no need.
Why should Perry get blasted for performing material live that he's mostly known for?
Cause it made Neal mad......???????????????
Mostly Neal was mad and said F'ck Him b/c Perry said they were cracking the stone when Perry left them high and dry and they were moving on, when,
in reality, here Perry was the one out there playing Journey music all alone first on his solo tour. Read your history, Princess of Darkness.
Ok, but what does that mean? Did he cost them any money or time for this? Were they all not performing and touring at some capacity at this point (Bad English, The Storm, Hardline, Vital Information)?
And if you really want to read into history, keep in mind that FTLOSM came out just when Journey was planning to reform with Chalfant on vocals. WOrd of this started around '92-'93. Perry addresses this on the Much Music interview (which unfortunately is no longer available on Youtube). He wishes them well. Now let's all step back in time here...Journey and SP haven't been heard from in 8 years. Had the new Journey decided to go out on tour at this time, who do you think the general public would pay to see? The VOICE of Journey, or the original band with someone who sounds like the VOICE. Make sense now why Neal was so pissed?
This is so lame.
How can you predict AT ALL who 'the public' would come to see back in 1995? Keep in mind that Journey was reforming with Chalfant AND Rolie, basicaly combining the Storm with Journey. Asuuming that Perry would outsell that lineup is a HUGE guess...and I don't think a very accurate one. Perry was selling theaters. Journey sells to arenas. Journey would get more corporate backing from the name alone...and more radio time because of the history - and recent success of the Storm.
You are all also taking an article from 1995 and relating it to a Neal interview from 2008 where he is STILL angry about Perry's BTM comments from 2000...and saying it is because Perry went on tour and performed a Journey set. Neal was pissed because of Perry's comments in the BTM and people still giving it some kind of credit that is not due. Perry had no right to tell Journey what to do - he took a seat on the bench. When you do that, don't expect the rest of the team to listen to you.
