41 million made this opening weekend. Another great licensing decision from Journey's silent partner.

Kudos to the film's producers for not going with all the overplayed Journey tunes and going with something a little different here.

This is the type of film like Armageddon which might be panned by critics but will end up in heavy syndication on TBS or the Fox Family channel. That's where the real money is made on licensing agreements like this. Love to see Triumph getting some play here too. Lay It On The Line is such a great song.

I was just about to post this! We just got back from the movie - for me, it was actually quite a bit better than the reviews would indicate. Lots of laugh-out-loud moments, some others they kind of milked a bit too much. I like pretty much all the actors in this so maybe that made a difference too. And the soundtrack is good :)

He has great taste in music and is a musician (his singing isn't great, but he loves it)!! :D
We've discussed this here before ...I'm pretty sure he's involved in the selection process. He is owner/co~owner
of the production co. that produces some of his movies!!

Have you ever noticed – this song is structured a lot like Don’t Stop Believin’ in the sense that it’s verses and bridges, but no chorus until the end. The hook doesn’t kick in until the very end. The “Hopelessly in Love” parts are a lot like the “Streelight People” parts. The songs end in a similar fashion. Not sure why I never noticed this until I heard The Party’s Over the other day.

I see where you're coming from. This song is still one of my all-time faves from Journey.

I read in a magazine back then, and I think I've grown not to believe it, that there was a version of this song with all Steve Perry on it. All instruments and everything. The demo. Over the years, I've figured that was just mis-reported.

I'd find that hard to believe unless the insrumentation were totally different... this tune is pretty instrumentally complex. Neal is blazin on that intro riff and the jazzy drum licks throughout, particularly at the start, are crazy. The bassline definitely seems to have some of Steve's influence all over it though.

That performance is from the BAMMIES. I was at that show and they were on fire. It was Jon's first gig with the band. Being a die-hard Gregg Rolie fan, I was sad that he was leaving but you can tell everyone was having such a great time. I miss those shows. The BAMMIES were always special.

Speaking of Gregg Rolie.... caught his show at Mohegan Sun.... they were incredible!!.. I was so happy they came to
the east coast.. thought for sure I was going to have to convince the family that we needed to go to CA for a vacation
in order to catch one of his shows!!

Nice. They're showing at the end of America's Got Talent all the ones that are making it to Vegas and they're playing Don't Stop Believing in the background as they're showing clips from all the shows with the different contestants. :D

This from the Time3 liner notes...
"The only studio recording included in the double-record live album, this song was written backstage at Detroit's Cobo Hall by Perry on an electric bass and the band played the number at sound check. Keyboardist Tim Gorman subbed in the studio on keyboards for Rolie, who left the band at the end of the tour. The single version made #34 in Billboard."

JC did say that Steve dictated the structure on DSB, so makes sense the 2 songs have that similarity in verse-bridge-chorus. Probably song expects here can pick out many other examples of Journey/SP solo that follow this structure.

The Party's Over is my second favorite Journey song. It's also promenently played in the new Adam Sandler movie Grown Ups. Sandler is the KING!

Yes I've seen it, and I really liked it. Sandler has struck a cord with me since 01, he's a boy scout trying to do the right thing. He bring his guys back for every movie movie. He's a fucking hero to me; he takes care of his guys and does the right thing in his films. Sandler is the KING. I'm glad he plugged Journey in (and arguably Perry's best vocal performance) into the movie. Sandler has to be a Journey fan as "The Party's Over" is a Journey "sleeper" tune.

If you are Steve Perry, and you are the one really finding the right places to put your music, it's smart to pick songs like The Party's Over, Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin, and Any Way You Want It. Fewer writers and fewer splits, if any. That would be the way I go. :)

He does. Where did anyone say he doesn't? He obviously wasn't going to be the full-time keys player because he helped create one song. That honor went to JC and he helped them reach the stratosphere of the industry and put the mostly horrid songwriting behind them.
