Concerning what he said, it is what it is. Growing up on the east coast during the Archie Bunker era, I've heard everything you could think of from family members, classmates and co-workers. If I disowned every person that used a racial epithet, I would be in isolation.
So many other issues in the world and we get riled up over stupid shit like this. What a bunch of pussies we have become.

And i have to agree with you.Way to many other things to worry about.

I love people from all races equally, and what I hate is the selfish, entitled way which so many people today think and approach society with. Ignorance comes in all colors. The problem with Political Correctness though is all it does is teach people to be insincere out of fear of immense reprisal. P.C. isn't changing the way anyone feels inside. The average person isn't stupid -- they know it's B.S. Of course people should be wise in keeping some of their thoughts to themselves (justified or ignorant) -- that goes without saying, but give someone like Mel a few drinks and a reason to blow up and there's a good chance that all that hate will start coming out.

Let's cut the bullshit people and get real. The ONLY difference between Mel and most folks is he doesn't have a Social filter. He says what is on his mind. Most people filter their thoughts before they espouse....we ALL have prejudices and hate in us...whether we wish to admit it to ourselves, or others...like RIP said...fear of reprisal, and ridicule from society is usually enough to keep the thoughts......well...thoughts.

You're a moron. Really - you are. I just kicked your ass in my last reply, but you keep spewing out your stupid ideas. I got to say though; it feels good to be this right. No, the difference between Mel and "us folk" is that he's a racist loser who use the media for his stupid opinion.

Speaking of stupid opinions, your's is a big oxymoron. You say that most people would talk their mind, using racial slurs or some other hateful crap, but then you go on and say that's impossible cause society would ridicule the aforementioned. Last time I checked, a society is just a organized group of people that got some sort of persistent relations, so on one hand you say that all people got hateful stuff harbored, but on the other hand you say that "society" don't. Dude, seriously? Hateful people = society but society doesn't equate to hateful people? Go back to flipping burgers please!

On the other hand, when it comes to Irish, French, or Polish jokes - no-one actually believes the Irish are ALL drunks, or that Frenchmen don't bathe, or that Poles can't perform basic carpentry. What's funny - at least to me - is the generalization itself, not the people it mocks.

Listen Mr. Trisomy 21, Mel's problem isn't What he said, but that he said it.

Please stick to medicine, or what ever topics involve your specialty, Urology....take a few logic courses.

What I said was most people have prejudices and hate. But that they filter theirs, Mel doesn't. I never claimed an 'ought' in my statement. I didn't contradict myself, Kildere....

Hateful people = society, but society = social filter, with fear of reprisal. that's what I said, dickbreath...

Actually, in this case, it's not even about him not having a "social filter". What he said was in PRIVACY in an argument between two people. She MADE it public. Im sure we ALL say things in the privacy of our own homes to those close to us that if anyone heard would make them see us differently. In the heat of the moment, in an argument. That's where I have a problem with this and I agree with MG. Why are WE even hearing this???

I've been in several arguments with loved ones in my life, but I have yet to accuse my mother of being a ****er lover. I don't buy this as a rationale.

You don't have to buy it. The fact is it was a private conversation that she has chosen to make public. Her motive for doing this should definitely be questioned.

No, I don't use words like that with my loved ones either. But mel, when drunk does obviously. That is a personality issue between him and those close to him. That has NOTHING to do with us. There is no way you have NEVER said anything offensive to anyone in privacy in your life. We may need to start calling you "saint 7 wishes" if that's the case

Beautiful words, Rip!! Totally agree!! There is good and bad in people of all races and colors!!
It's nice when you can just be who you are and say what you feel to the people around you.
I had a long convo w/a client, who happens to be black, based on this thread and that is
basically what he said, Rip. He liked that I shared the (BB, rape) joke and asked him how he felt about it.
He said he enjoys talking with me because if I'm thinking something , I'm going to say it!! He said it makes
him feel as if all my cards are on that table and that makes him feel comfortable enough to say what he
wants to say ...we do laugh a lot!!

Good post '7', and I agree w/it for the most part!!

I agree with Lynn and MG. Things said privately like that which later come out are usually twisted, come out of context, or are flat-out changed to suit the will of the one telling it. If there was a private spat, who cares... what does it prove other than Mel is a human guy who got into an argument with someone and said something the other person didn't like, whether it was "right" or not, for whatever reason... he was mad, or she pushed a button with him, or whatever else the hell. Let he or she who has never once got mad at someone cast the first stone.

It's not as if this was on TV or in the middle of Times Square, and it's not as if anyone knows for sure what was exactly going on between these people or in this argument... But here we go, someone "said" this happened so it must be all 100% true and immediately he's a bad guy.

USA Today printed: "A spokesman for Gibson told People.com: "I have no comment on, and furthermore no knowledge of, the credibility or authenticity of any alleged audio tapes." Attorneys for Gibson and Grigorieva met yesterday in a closed-door hearing over custody of their 7-month-old daughter, reports AP. No one is commenting because the case is sealed."

So, maybe shame on Oksana Grigorieva for taping a private conversation and using it against him? But regardless, it's still private. Tape or no tape, it's none of anyone's business what was going on, and who knows what was going on before or after the taped part(s). I don't know the details and I don't care to.

Though it's funny how the custody case is SEALED, yet this woman is willing to let THIS out. I have no patience for the victim routine. And airing a private thing like this argument instead of keeping it in court, if that's what the purpose of taping it was, is a clear play for sympathy. Make the other person the bad guy, regardless if it's true or if it hurts their career, or whatever. I gotta say, I'm with Mel on this one.

What people say in private is what they truly mean and I simply would not allow anyone in my life that felt like Mel Gibson does or has so little imagination he has to attack other races to argue with someone he supposedly loves.

I can't believe you people are giving him a pass.

Right, and that's your right to not have people like that in your life, if given a choice. In some cases it's an elderly grandparent, so we have no choice ;) but fortunately mel Gibson isn't part of my life. He is no one to me personally. And what he said was in privacy, part of his personal life. To me he's just a Hollywood entertainer that has put out some great movies I enjoy. How can I give someone a pass when I don't even know him? So should we start taping everyone in Hollywood now, when they are having private conversations or arguments? You know, cause we may want to know who all the racists are of all cultures and races so we can hate and boycott them too.....wonder who would be left in Hollywood?

I have a feeling money has something to do with it. Isn't that always the root? But with those who want to see Gibsons career ended over his personal feelings, beliefs or use of slang words. Should we go back to the McCarthy era? Start weeding out the racists like the so-called "communists" were all weeded out in the 50's?

I agree with you 100%. I am definitely not giving Mel a pass. What he said, whether it be private, public, in confidence, whatever, was flat wrong. I disagree with Lynn and BJG 1000%. I could care less if he said that in private and it got out to the public. It is wrong either way. To now blame Oksuna is bullshit. I don't care what her motive, the real wrong here is what came out of Mel's mouth and what originated in his head. I agree with Bobby...too many here are making excuses for Mel and giving him the pass.

you don't live in America. You know, the place with a huge mix of cultures that came here in boat loads in the early 1900's.....when prejudice and racism were at their peak. Signs stating "help needed, Irish need not apply" as well as many other things between the European cultures once they arrived here. Every nationality felt they were treated the worst. My italian grandfather would tell me stories of how they were treated the worst so they hated germans, Irish and poles and more! Racism did not start in our generation. It's been around for centuries. And many are guilty. We are talking only a couple of generations ago. You really have no clue. Don't tell me there is no prejudice between your European countries over there, or for the people who immigrate to your countries. I know that would be a lie!!!

Bingo right there! ^^^^^

Private arguments and problems should be kept between the two people or whatever who had them, period. Get mad, deal with it, and get the hell over it and move the f*ck on already  Everybody has SHIT to deal with in life, DEAL with it keep your shit to yourself! Maybe she's getting paid for her "story"

Yeah and it has nothing to do with giving him a "pass"  We don't KNOW the guy, it's not like any of us are having lunch with him today and will tell him "Dude, it's ok man"

I just take these things with the FACT that there are 2 sides to every story, always! Like MG said, SHE knew the taping was taking place, so of course was probably on her best "I do nothing wrong" behavior   And I agree, money must be involved!

I can't believe you people are giving him a pass.

Dean, I've heard you make jokes that could fit in this category. I could assume by jokes you made, that I personally wouldn't make, that you could be racist. But I don't really care what you believe or think in your own mind. It's not for me to decide what's in your heart based on words. I don't do that to anyone I know. I don't even know mel. It's not giving him a pass. If it's who he is fine. I just thank God he's not my boyfriend or ex in this case ;)
