Three Rarities

Postby Idiosyncrasy » Sat Jul 03, 2010 11:33 pm

Hi,

Does anyone have any of the following?

- Journey live 1993(?) with Kevin Chalfant - I think this was a one-off show they played.
- Journey live with Michael Bolton (about 87/88?)
- Jonathan Cain - Songwriting Demos (I've got a really really bad copy on a tape somewhere, but it's nigh-unlistenable. Seem to remember a great song called "I'm Telling You Now" and a demo of "The Waiting Years", among others)

I'm not holding out much hope, but I thought someone out there might have them!

Thanks!

- Danny.

This was at the Herbie Herbert benefit roast back in 1993. Everybody in Journey showed up, except for Perry. The Storm also performed so Chalfant took Perry's spot for the Journey portion.

I think this was at one of the Bammies after ROR.

- Jonathan Cain - Songwriting Demos (I've got a really really bad copy on a tape somewhere, but it's nigh-unlistenable. Seem to remember a great song called "I'm Telling You Now" and a demo of "The Waiting Years", among others)

Don't know anything about this.

Jonathan Cain, with one sound clip - looks like it's no longer available to be ordered from this site, though...

I used to go to http://gemm.com to look for rare CD's, etc. It's been a while since I used it though.

I have looked high and low and have never found a copy of the show, much less a set list. One thing I would love to have in my collection.

I have a copy of the Bammies, after ROR. I wouldn't really call it a Journey cd. It is Neal with guess stars if I remember right. Bolton does come out and sing one maybe two songs with then Journey members, then goes back to Neal and other guests. Late Nite is promoted as the new Schon cd.

The only thing I have seen is Cain and Bolton Demos together. Was suppose to be "the next Journey demos" I do not know if that is true or not. Could have been demos for the Hunger cd.

You really have this? Wow! So what songs does Bolton sings with the J-Boys? How's the sound quality of your show?

If my memory is correct, Rolling Stone magazine mentioned the benefit show for Herbie. I believe it said that Lights and Separate Ways were played, maybe one or two more Journey tracks. Possibly Just the Same Way? Dunbar played on Lights, Smith played on Separate Ways. This was also the article that made the tacky comment: "I'm sure somebody missed Perry from the line-up. SOmebody? Anybody? Perry's mom?"

Asshole Rolling Stone writers.

I have photos of the first event........from a friend.
No clue about the second.
And an old tape somewhere of the third. I also have a tape with Steve Perry playing stump the band on a radio show and he sang on it...........including "On top of Spaggetti!" Laughed my butt off on that one. He can sing anything.

I have these 2 tracks labeled as Perry-Cain demos….no idea where it came from:

1st track sounds like SP; 2nd kind of iffy....

Second one is definitely not Chalfant. It's definitely got Perry's signature sound and emphasis on certain words. There are parts that don't sound quite like him, but there's no real telling when these demos were recorded or what shape his voice was in. But I'd say it was Perry, or someone trying really hard to sound like him. Chalfant has a powerful, soaring voice, but it's not the same style as Perry's.
