Most of the performers today, do not have formal training and can't even read music. It is truly a natural talent, same thing with art. Music in the schools had nothing to do with their success. I highly doubt learning "Hot Cross Buns" on a flute made them rock stars.

I could list the names of several musicians who would disagree w/you or I could just say that most athletes never make it into the NBA, NFL, NHL or MLB,
but they still play in school ...shall we remove sports too?!? I didn't think so, we have to have something for the dummies to do, right?!?

Also, if his school did not burn down, would he be up there advocating for this? No. Another thing, he didn't move because he couldn't step inside the new school, he moved just like all the other families did - white flight as the neighborhood changed. He would've moved even if the school didn't burn down. He had no choice, Tyrone made that decision for him and his family.

As far as the argument goes, students do better in school with music is bullshit. They're band geeks. They're the nerds of the school. If it wasn't music, it would be something else and the dorks would still get the good grades.

Finally, unfortunately, judging by his views on this topic and other things in the past, I would say Mr. Cain is probably to the left...which disappoints. I figured he was a democrat but a blue collar-Reagan Democrat, which would be ok. Now, I think Hollywood got a hold of him and he's too far to the left. So, though I think he's a good person and I respect him (and could probably work with him in a bi-partisan fashion on certain issues), I would NOT vote for him. Sorry Jon.

I am glad Jon could share this about his life. What an amazingly strong man. Coming through that made him a better person then most of us will ever be. Gives me a whole new respect for someone I ( and others) probably have only thought of as " Journey's keyboardist." And as someone else stated what an incredible contrast Jon is to Steve Perry's constant "poor me I have suffered so much" attitude & his wanting life stopped for him. I wish Jon a lot of happiness and peace of mind.

I was torn to pieces by the narrating of the story and the pictures. The loss of a child, my heart...honestly

No Jana, he is not a doll. Ginger, Friga is anything but a genuine guy. He has to be the biggest phony in the band. Hang with him backstage for awhile and get to know him. You would be shocked. Rolling his eyes at fans and meet n greets, etc.

This wasn't my intention- to bash Cain; but someone who somewhat knows the guy, I had to set the record straight with Jana and Ginger.

I know some things about him too Deano. And he and his wife are quite kind in my book. Look you may have met him when he was tired, maybe the fans were acting stupid, or he wanted to go back to his hotel and did not feel like those meet and greets.

I don't know what happened between you and the band. Personally I was not there. But sometimes you totally confuse me. On one hand you say a nice thing about them, and on the next you bash them to the ground. I never know where you are coming from.

I do know he has done some really kind things in his life. I met him. I know some things you don't know. And he is a kind man in my book, his wife is especially kind and sweet. I don't care what any of you think of him.

I find good things about you too Deano, though when I first started this board you came across as a real jerk to me. There are times you are downright hostile to newbies, and you can be very aggressive. But getting to know you some, I see some good traits in you, maybe some you don't even know about yourself. I choose to see the good in folks as much as I can, you see, at times we can all be jerks. Jon is just a guy.............foulable I am sure, saint, probably not. In most people though, there are good and bad days.
