I hope it will be either a rock or blues album- or a combo of the two. I remember that he's mentioned that he wanted to do another blues album. I guess we'll see. Personally, I'm glad that he's so prolific.

I'm not big on blues. I hope it's not that. Glad to hear this. Can't wait. I thought maybe it had fallen by the wayside.

I don't think it has anything to do w/his weight,
it's just what happens as you age ...his shot must be wearing off!!

He's probably doing all he can to stay busy; that supermodel or whatever broke up with him.

must be so cool to be able to be that prolific musically.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

So, the continuation of the Neal Schon Band tour seems dead in the water.
Can't blame the guy, really. As evidenced by his interview in Texas, the low turn out DID bother him and he fixed the blame squarely on the promoters.
To put it in perspective, In Pineda's first show in Reno the other night, Arnel has already equaled the attendance for the entire Neal Schon Band tour.
He did it by playing a setlist consisting of medleys, one of Tagalog songs, one of Bon Jovi and one Queen medley and individual numbers covering Elvis, Bryan Adams, Joan Jett and Survivor.
In comparison, Schon's tunes included a few covers and stuff from Pre-Perry Journey, Red 13, HSAS, Soul Sirkus, and Piranha Blues. Unfortunately, those arrangements aren't going to be packing anyone in beyond us diehards.
And this was despite the disparity in ticket prices here. Pineda's ranged from $40 to over $100 while Neal's show bordered on being free or at least the cost of three drinks.
Obviously, Neal is better off making another solo album for his own amusement rather than hitting the road again unless he can find even smaller venues to play so as not to perform for half filled saloons.

My advise (unsolicited of course) if Neal contemplates going on tour by himself again.
Advertise Schon as the former Guitarist from Santana in big bold letters and perform some of those songs instead. I'll bet he'll draw at least as many as Gregg Rolie does going that route.

I myself enjoyed Neal's show but seeing a former solo Grammy nominee struggle to attract even semi decent crowds under his own name is a bit of a downer.

He should place it there. Also, the fact that he played so much other stuff MIGHT have something to do with it, but I doubt it really.

he did it because whoever is working for him promoted the hell out of it. Also, because of the Philippine-connection, there's a major sense of community there, and word travels fast. Good for him.

He's a GUITARIST in a major, legendary band. What SHOULD have happened is that he should've focused more on his own material and promoted it as such. When peeps go see bands these days, I don't think a ton of them are aware beforehand what the band will play. Diehards, sure, but the general public-not so much. He should've marketed it as more an instrumentalist kind of thing. It's possible that people just were confused on what the show would be. As you say below, the shows should've been smaller as well.

Despite a majority of his solo catalog being instrumental, Neal seems adverse to playing that type of music live. Prayer For Peace was really the only modern instrumental he played at the show I attended and was in such stark contrast to every other song on the setlist, it was no wonder the crowd got completely quiet during the performance but let out a thunderous applause when he was finished (which made me wonder why he doesn't do instrumental only shows to begin with).
I agree with something that St. John said. Neal has a tendency to shred way too much (a common occurrence it seems with older rock guitarists). in contrast, Mile's work seemed so much cleaner and fresh, perhaps a a bit reminiscent of the way Neal himself used to play during the 70s. Just like some singers step down a notch as they get older, it seems guitarist try to play faster and in a more frantic style as they age for some reason or other.
It's okay for a song or two but after that it becomes a bit like listening to Eddie Van Halen in loop mode.

I would love to see Neal do a concert centered around Late Nite and Beyond The Thunder but it doesn't seem to be the cards.

I thought I heard or read somewhere that Neal was taking the NSB to Europe this year. I don't know if I'd write the band off already. Let's say he decided to come to Austin, lol, he should put an ad or two in Austin360 or Austin360.com, maybe along with an ad or two in the Daily Texan, UT's student university newspaper, saying something about Santana, the Tubes, Miles, etc.; he could also hook up with Gregg and play that angle in both of these publications... The way the music scene is here I think he could pack Stubb's, Emo's, Antone's, Saxon Pub, etc. Me might even be able to talk to Terry Lacona at ACL. I have this thing all figured out, lol.

Neal still looks thin to me--he looked thin in those NAMM pics I thought too.
