Isn't It Time

Postby FamilyMan » Sun Jul 11, 2010 5:28 am

Ok, fellow Journey fans. Time to introduce myself. I've been more than a frequent "lurker" here for the past few years, and thought about joining the forum many times. Fear, mixed with computer illiteracy, always stopped me short of "submit." But since the Journey board's been a little quiet these days, I thought I'd throw my hat in the ring.

Yes, I'm an avid Journey fan like the rest of you. But I confess that my loon-dom took a dramatic turn two years ago when, as a producer for CBS News, I pitched the show CBS Sunday Morning a story on the "new" lineup with Arnel Pineda. To my delight (and astonishment), I suddenly found myself on a plane to the city by the bay, and driving up the 101 to the famous Journey warehouse for the chance to meet my childhood rock and roll idols. Many of you saw the piece and although it was terrifying, it was also fun to read your reactions posted here. I even take some personal pride that the phrase that stuck, Jon Cain's "Arnel makes me a better person" was born in the piece I produced.

Speaking of Jon Cain, he seemed to genuinely appreciate the coverage (as did the whole band) and felt as though we "set the tone" for Revelation's successful run. Backstage at one of the '08 shows, Jon was very gracious to me and my guests, saying we were now "part of the Journey family" (hence my username).

Anyway, I'm sure I'll be trading licks with all of you over the past, present and future of the band in the coming months, but thanks go out to Andrew - and to all of you - for allowing me into such a special community. For those of you who missed the CBS story, the link is below...

I loved that piece. I viewed it a lot. Great job. Nice to hear what a great guy Jon is. A lot of people were introduced via that interview to the "person" Arnel, instead of just the soundbite "Filipino singer hired via YouTube" that had been out there.

Why? Neal gave an honest, albeit heated, response in the moment thinking back to the crappy comments made by Steve in VH1 and said it. But he doesn't hold a grudge, so made the nice comment re Steve in the CBS piece.

The biggest sweetheart in this band is Deen. He said being in Journey is "God reaching down from heaven, tapping you on the shoulder, and saying 'young man, you're blessed.'" He said it off-camera, not in front of the guys. He truly loves what he does. Loves Augeri too.

He is a great guy, and he said in an interview before these guys have really given him a lot of support when he had his addiction problems back in the day.
