FamilyMan wrote:Ok, fellow Journey fans. Time to introduce myself. I've been more than a frequent "lurker" here for the past few years, and thought about joining the forum many times. Fear, mixed with computer illiteracy, always stopped me short of "submit." But since the Journey board's been a little quiet these days, I thought I'd throw my hat in the ring.

Yes, I'm an avid Journey fan like the rest of you. But I confess that my loon-dom took a dramatic turn two years ago when, as a producer for CBS News, I pitched the show CBS Sunday Morning a story on the "new" lineup with Arnel Pineda. To my delight (and astonishment), I suddenly found myself on a plane to the city by the bay, and driving up the 101 to the famous Journey warehouse for the chance to meet my childhood rock and roll idols. Many of you saw the piece and although it was terrifying, it was also fun to read your reactions posted here. I even take some personal pride that the phrase that stuck, Jon Cain's "Arnel makes me a better person" was born in the piece I produced.

Speaking of Jon Cain, he seemed to genuinely appreciate the coverage (as did the whole band) and felt as though we "set the tone" for Revelation's successful run. Backstage at one of the '08 shows, Jon was very gracious to me and my guests, saying we were now "part of the Journey family" (hence my username).

Anyway, I'm sure I'll be trading licks with all of you over the past, present and future of the band in the coming months, but thanks go out to Andrew - and to all of you - for allowing me into such a special community. For those of you who missed the CBS story, the link is below...

CBS Sunday Morning Show is one my favorite shows to watch... and the piece on Journey was great..
you did a fantastic job!!! and Welcome!

No pics of Perry, old or new. When we asked for his participation for the segment, his rep politely declined - saying "coffee with Steve" was in my future. I'm still waiting...

That would be nice..............I would love to see the loons have a cup of coffee with Steve..........LOL! Like the coffee would not give them jitters enough! LOL! Steve would probably need Irish Coffee at that point! LOL!

Something I always wonder, why do people go to someone when they are clearly eating and having private time with a loved one, and ask for autographs? Especially when they try to avoid your glance and give off every vibe they want personal time? As much as I like Steve as a musician, I could not do it. I would not want to be a shmuck and ruin a nice family dinner and have the only time I could meet my favorite singer, leave a bad impression on him. I bet if you do something that stupid, they might never want to see you again.

People need to think. I think if I was standing in line at Disney World I would say Hi Steve, quietly, then if he acted like he wanted to talk, in other words engaged me in conversation, then I think that would be alright. I think a lot of those things are golden rule based. Put myself in this person's shoes. If I was having dinner with my husband and an art fan came by and would not let us have a second to ourselves I think I would be a little irritated. Especially if it was for an anniversary or something of that nature.

I know that I would be too shy to go up to any celebrity to talk. But... I could understand how someone thinking that it was a once-in-a-lifetime chance to meet that person would ignore the signals to "leave me alone". It's not a lifestyle that I would probably choose (I prefer to be invisible) but if you choose to be in the spotlight and have all the perks ($$$) of celebrity, there is probably a price to pay, one of those being harassed by the public.

Morning, Ginger & all.

 And WELCOME, Family Man! 8)

Ging, your question brought back a radio interview I heard back in the day, when Steve was promoting "Street Talk" - (I'd upload it, but my Mom THREW OUT ALL of my Steve / Journey interviews, etc. Great. :x)

He was asked a question about trying to "stay normal" in the crazy world of Music - He said that he & Sherry try to do normal things that other people do, but if he decided to go to a Restaurant, he DID NOT LIKE IT when people would approach him, throw a piece of paper and pen in his face and ask, "Aren't you Steve Perry of Journey?"

He'd say, very bluntly, "NOT while I'm eating."

I can't say that I blame him though. It just isn't the right time. Everyone, even people who are somewhat successful need time for family and friends. Private time. Restaraunts are places we spend special time with loved ones. I know Dan and I love our time out on the weekend. There just is a very wrong time to bug folks. While using the restroom..........duh......eating with family or freinds, or anytime someone is clearly letting you know that it is their time. I can read physical cues that let me know if approaching someone is O.K. or not. Most people can tell, so I don't get why people ignore their gut and rush up and goofily ask...........Can I have your autograph for me and 50 of my best friends? LOL!

Ross isn't as wacky off stage, but VERY nice. After the interview, he pulled me and my correspondent John Blackstone aside and told us he thought that was one of the best interviews the band had ever given.
It was a big compliment.

He doesn't get nearly as much airtime as the rest of the band, naturally... the bass players rarely do. But I found him incredibly insightful, and particularly respectful about Steve Perry. Considering Perry once fired him, I found that surprising.

Welcome to our little place in the sun! 8)

I just watched part of the clip (I hadn't seen it before, I'm more of a 'loon' than a 'pinhead'... What I found VERY nice was that JSS was included as a former singer, and Neal's comments about SP were much kinder (maybe the previous comments had some backlash for him, IDK).

In my limited experience, Deen is a really great guy to talk to, and Ross is a hoot off stage as well as on! Those two are definitely the personality of the band from my perspective, although I've never met Arnel. Everyone says he's really nice too, though.

Oh yeah, Jeremey is an awesome performer and a really cool dude to hang out with too!!! 8)

Great job, Mr. Producer/Family Man!!! :D

I remember an email forwarded through my manager about the piece but I went through again shortly thereafter and could not locate it! Hard to sort and classify forwarded emails.....Hope you are doing well and as I think more about it I believe it was a response to a comment I made about my voice being in the piece during the Youtube "search!"

Glad to run into you here and say thanks for that little shout out.
