Thanks MG... I thought my input that I have been there, done that, was needed here.. and what this girl is doing is despicable... Yes, Mel is being mentally abusive... and there is a possibility of physical abuse too... but there isn't any good enough explanation to me why these tapes had to be made public.. None.. She is fighting dirty by using the public to try and crucify him... which is not needed. It is only an attempt to make her look like she didn't do anything to warrant the abuse she received. If it was that bad.. she should of left earlier than she did... and left quietly.

As far as I know, and correct me if I am wrong.. Mel has kept quiet about this, not that because he is guilty of saying those things, which he did say.. it is because Mel knows not to air this type of laundry out for the public to see. She should of followed his example and been quiet about it too.

Even if she was setting him up, rational people don't behave the way Mel did in those recordings. The man is an abusive nutcase; nobody should be defending him in any way.

I agree with all of you. Still, I believe in most sane people there is a line somewhere. I do believe she's up to some crap for sure, but I can't personally understand reacting on his level in a relationship dispute. Say she was the most evil, conniving ho on the face of the planet. I'd probably be more careful than ever about what I said or did around her -- definitely nothing like this:

In Mel's case, I believe firmly that Robin is the one who should get a fair share of Mel's money. She was their for what, 28 years? They split and did she say a thing? No. This girl doesn't really deserve that much of his money... just enough to support the child.. and not an outrageous figure either. That girl can go find some work to support herself.

I'm not blaming anyone for not wanting to abandon their admiration of this actor - it's extremely natural and understandable, because he's a famous (white) celebrity who used to seem like a great guy. Let me ask you this - if someone you know was revealed to be a domestic abuser who threatened to murder his ex, would you still be (somewhat) sympathetic towards him? Separate the associations and ideas you have about Gibson because of the characters he has played in his films. Listen to those tapes and the threats of murder, but impose some random fuck's face over the image you have of Riggs or Mad Max, and get back to me. You'd be calling for the guy to be throw in jail without a key.
