I felt by telling us he's not what women want, you were insinuating that we want him or something, and that is why you think we are defending him. I am not defending him. I want the courts to do their job. If he hit her, I want justice. If he didn't, I want her charged for filing a false police report. I want an investigation and justice. But I don't like what she did, and I think it was wrong. And I will not be part of some media frenzy where we believe every word they say with no proof he hit her yet. I'm not blaming anyone for not wanting to abandon their admiration of this actor - it's extremely natural and understandable, because he's a famous (white) celebrity who used to seem like a great guy. I used to see all his movies the day they opened in the theaters. Not so much anymore. My wife feels exactly the same way. I won't be able to see him on the screen again without wincing - kind of like watching Orenthal portray Nordberg in my (formerly) beloved Naked Gun movies.

It's one thing to assert (and with good reason, I might add) that his ex has an axe to grind and is hardly a saint herself. But defending this maniac in any way stops just short of the litmus test of the Stockholm Syndrome. Let me ask you this - if someone you know was revealed to be a domestic abuser who threatened to murder his ex, would you still be (somewhat) sympathetic towards him? Separate the associations and ideas you have about Gibson because of the characters he has played in his films. Listen to those tapes and the threats of murder, but impose some random fuck's face over the image you have of Riggs or Mad Max, and get back to me. You'd be calling for the guy to be throw in jail without a key.

And this is hardly the first time this asshole has gone off the deep end.

Mel Gibson is NOT What Women Want, nor is he a charming, attractive middle-aged man or the loving, nuturing husband he portrayed in "Signs". He is a domestic abuser who has threatened murder and committed violence against the woman he is supposed to love while she was holding their child.

Again, you missed the point. No one is empathizing with Mel. No one is accepting or excusing his behaviors. All that we are saying is , this woman is not any better and she is as wrong as Gibson. She is trying to gain fortune and fame by making tape after tape.
