Robert Plant tour

Postby Don » Tue Jul 13, 2010 10:21 am

The first leg of the tour starts tomorrow.

Robert Plant and the Band of Joy
July 13 – Memphis, TN @ The Orpheum Theater
July 15 – Little Rock, AR @ Robinson Center Music Hall
July 16 – Tulsa, OK @ Brady Theater
July 18 – Albuquerque, NM @ Sandia Casino Amphitheater
July 20 – Phoenix, AZ @ Dodge Theater
July 21 – Tucson, AZ @ Anselmo Valencia Amphitheater
July 23 – Dallas, TX @ Meyerson Symphony Hall
July 24 – Houston, TX @ Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion
July 26 – Austin, TX @ Stubbs Waller Creek Amphitheater
July 28 – Mobile, AL @ The Saenger Theatre
July 30 – Clearwater, FL @ Ruth Eckerd Hall
July 31 – Miami, FL @ Bayfront Park Amphitheater

For his new record and tour, Plant has rounded up an ace group of roots musicians and session players: Patty Griffin on vocals, multi-instrumentalist Darrell Scott, guitarist and co-producer Buddy Miller, drummer Marco Giovino and bassist Byron House. “It’s been a blast working on these new songs… and I’m enjoying such creativity and vitality,” Plant said in a statement. “It’s been a remarkable change of direction for all of us and as a group we all seem to have developed a new groove.”

The upcoming release will be Plant’s first LP since 2007’s Raising Sand, his multiplatinum, Grammy-winning collaboration with Alison Krauss. With Krauss busy working on recording and touring with her own band Union Station, Plant doesn’t plan to tour or record with her this year, although he does promise there will be an eventual follow-up to Raising Sand. “Alison and I get together quite often… and sometimes we dance,” Plant added

It's great to see Plant doing what he wants. It was only a few year ago when he was offered two hundred million to do a world tour with Zeppelin.
"I don't want to tour like a bunch of bored old men following the Rolling Stones around."
When you've accomplished everything else musically, why not go to the beat of your own drum for awhile?

I was surprised at how many Led Zep songs he did - 4 I think (+ "Tall Cool One"), and I have several videos to put up on YouTube.

Cause I'm your tall cool one and I'm built to please

Mmm I'm like a strange cat running in the heat of the night
I've got a fire in my eyes, got a date with delight
Some kinda moanin' in in the heart of the storm Ooh,
I'm gonna love you so hard, you'll want your loving done
Lighten up baby, I'm in love with you
Lighten up baby, I'm in love with you
Now with my one hand loose I aim to satisfy
Ah, you like my loving machine, I like your bloodshot eyes
Real gone girl jumping back with the beat,
oh yeah I'm your your tall cool one with the crazy feet

Now if Journey does something like that on their next album, I'm gonna be all kinds of impressed. Does Cain have that kind of writing inside of him?

Heaven Knows was another great song off that album (Now And Zen).

I'll bet they've all had it in them at one time
or another, while on the bus, on tour, a moment of desperation?!?!

Two of my favorite Plant solo songs, along with "Big Log" and "Ship of Fools". Another real gem is "Tie-Dye on the Highway" from Manic Nirvana.

Houses Of The Holy. I want to hear how they handle the fat percussion that song uses.

Sounds really good. The Band of Joy was said to be the name of the band that Plant was in prior to LZ. I wonder if any of those guys are from that original band.

Shall do -- it should be up by tonight or tomorrow. Definitely a cool twist, and you can see him have fun with the audience when they put their twist on the main guitar riff.

No. Totally different lineup now.
John Bonham was in the original lineup along with Plant, as those two had been friends since childhood..

Out side of Zeppelin, Plant has sold 10 million albums in N. America with Now And Zen being the biggest seller at 3X Platinum.

I ran across an old song of theirs on YouTube, and I have to say the new project definitely sounds very similar. Very rootsy guitar tones with tons of reverb. I can see this isn't just a gimmick with the band name, but almost a continuation.
