Out of town and back

Postby MBPL » Wed Jul 21, 2010 5:30 pm

Up late, can't sleep. Been busy and on FB networking, etc. Hope all is well with everyone.

Well, just back from NYC to do some business and have a bit of pleasure! The weather in NYC is just what my mother warned me about...extreme! In this case it was hot, humid, hot, humid, hot, and humid and hot! Showered a lot much to the amusement of my friend Colman, Philly native and actor/director whom I have known about 19 yrs and stayed with. Have to sign in and out with security in his high rise of about 800 people, & guests can only stay no more than 2 wks!

Arrived at JFK, but I drove into Mid-Town Manhattan with a Spanish guy named Victor, an independent cabbie. I told him if he tried anything I might have to slice his neck. I don't mind helping out independent drivers trying to "hold it down" and make a buck, but ya know it can be scary. BTW, it was an $8 toll just to get into Manhattan, $8!! NYC is expensive as hell!! And smelly, fast paced, and crowded! People jay walk like crazy with cops present! But, I like that they are blunt and straight forward, you know where you stand with them. And they were friendly especially when I told them, "My mom is Manhattan-born and South Bronx raised!" Did not need to tell them my business, but I figured it would not hurt.

Went to the Hudson River, saw New Jersey from across the river. Speaking of NJ I saw three orange women! Three Guidettes, if I can say that without insulting Italian people! They were Orange! Really, REALLY tanned just like on tee vee! And they had big dark poofed hair! Would not have been cool to take their pix so I did not, but I saw them! Never before saw people like that in the Bay Area! Saw them by Roc Center.

So, okay was only in NY for a few days, and walked most of the time in extreme heat which is why I showered 3 times a day and lost about 10 lbs which my pix do not reflect, sadly. (okay 4 lbs). Saw Madison Square Garden, Central Park - well some of it, and Times Square. Wow! So many people!

Went to dinner at a Thai restaurant where I ordered Grilled Ginger Honey Pork Chops - 3 or 4 pork chops! Way too much food, but very well cooked, and I usually do not eat pork chops!

Saw lots of cute guys which was refreshing, there are so few men in SF who are not attached at the hip to other guys.

Colman, my friend who currently is finished playing Billy Flynn in the musical Chicago, was great in that show! I actually saw a Broadway show on Broadway and someone I know was in it!! Very exciting for this old playwright!

Saw a drag show with a drag queen named Shequida. She was a sour-tongued diva who invited some of us on stage, but ended up cussing most of us out' cause we weren't as 'fierce" as she was! I got the brunt of her rage - well, she was also VERY drunk! I am not one of those blacks who dances and sings with soul and that pissed her off when we had to perform. She's a fellow Jamaican, so I forgive her. I introduced myself to the bitch after the show, but she barely remembered me. I said, "Hi, I'm the lady whom you told to 'get your no-dancing, no-singing ass off this stage you're a disgrace to black folks...!'" Many of you probably do not get "gay" or "drag" humor, I am working on it, but she did not offend me, hell she made me laugh. And I think I held my own, plus with the heat I did not feel like drinking so I saw that 6-inch heels wearing boy/girl heffa in a whole different light...a whole DRUNKEN light! tee!

Okay, so I have bored you all beyond recognition with my tales. Most of my pix are on FB and there's an upcoming video which will be funny as hell...well, to me at least.

Have a great week, be back online soon! MBPL :D

AWESOME MBPL!!

I have only been to NYC once but it was the funnest week of my life!!!!!!!! I ran the NYC marathon so I was able to see all 5 boroughs up close and personal during the run-and I can now say I have gone running in Central Park! I of course spent a fair chunk of money on Canal Street-I bought more knockoff purses that I'll ever need in my entire life but it was so much fun to see how far I could talk them down! I had lunch in Little Italy almost every day...So yummy!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now I want to go back!!!!!! I'm glad you had a great time, lady!!

Just took the family to NYC in June. Great time. Glad we missed the real heatwave. Your pics look very familiar.

I took my two older daughters to Rock of Ages and my wife took our 11 year old daughter to Mamma Mia. We all enjoyed it.

Rock of Ages was fun. DSB finale brought the house down. My daughters didn't know what to think of me pouring down the brews. I'm sure they didn't expect that when they heard about going to a Broadway show. My kind of Broadway!

Funny thing was I had to tone down my driving when returning home. I got into that NYC driving and forgot to turn it off. Kids had to remind me I wasn't in NY anymore. I hope I wasn't following or passing any neighbors. :)

Glad you had a good time!! NYC is too hot for me in the summer. I don't tolerate heat & humidity very well, I get headaches, dizziness & nausea. So...I'm leaving for Alaska tomorrow. Flying into Anchorage spending a few days there, then drive to Denali NP, down to the Kenai peninsula spend a few days in Seward, take a boat tour of the fjords see the glaciers, whales otters etc. Spend a couple of days touring the park over to Homer and home. Alaska has always been on my bucket list, so I'm very excited about the trip.

Ginger, you are SO talented! I would be honored for you to sketch me! I was thinking of having one of me and my friend Colman, the guy in the theater pix from when I went to NYC. I want to use it in a video I am putting together if you don't mind. I will of course add your name to the credits. Give me a couple of days, I am working on my editor's notes for my mom's photobook/memoir. The editor works faster than me. :D Thank you, dear! L

Oh wow! So, you went to see musicals? I had never in my life been to NYC or to Broadway. I only bought that expensive-ass ticket 'cause my longtime friend was in a musical. But, help me here, what the hell is DSB? Well, wait...Rock of Ages? Nevermind, I will look it up. Spaz!!!!

My pix were from Hell's kitchen, well Mid-town Manhattan, then wherever Rockefeller Center is, then Central Park (Trump Tower). Everything was in walking distance from my friend's downtown highrise. Yes, I who hate the heat, walked for miles all up in the heat and humidity! Brutal! Very happy you and your family had fun, I sure had a ball :D

Oh no, I used to be just like you in the heat! Still am from time to time! But, I kept water with me, ate as much as I could and did not drink too much. Actually, I did not feel like eating or drinking, I guess heat does that to a person. But, the other places you are going to sound fabulous! Wow! Well, have a wonderful time in Alaska, my dear. Say "hey ya" to the Palin family for me! Har! *snort*! :D

I'll be darned. That was close to where we stayed...54th and 8th Ave. We walked everywhere as well. Girls would like to go back.

We made national tv twice in one day...CBS Early Show and Letterman (during outdoor stunt). I was embarrassed, kids were thrilled. Harry Smith (CBS) is a great guy. He ended up giving our family a personalized tour of the Early Show studio. Chatted with us for about 20 minutes. Nice man.

By the way...it was Don't Stop Believin'.

Wow! You got a personal tour from Harry Smith?! Very cool!

Yea, I got DSB, whatever.

Well, I won't say where my friend lives for privacy reasons, but we were pretty close to you, but around 9th Ave! Small world! Actually, I may go back as well, in the fall to see my friend on Broadway again in another play. Glad you had a ball! :D
