Rain, rain go away!!!

Postby Peartree12249 » Fri Jul 23, 2010 11:56 am

Last month it was a tornado, tonight it's tornadoes and flash floods. Some areas around here have received over 7 inches of rain in less than 2 hours & it doesn't look like it s going to stop anytime soon. Freeways are closed due to the floods, and city streets are developing sinkholes. We spent the better part of an hour hunkered down in the basement. Usually July and August are drought months. I can't remember when my lawn has been this green in July. Unfortunately, my lovely flower garden has been flattened by the pounding rain. Oh well, at least we're high and dry and no damage yet.

Hope it stops by morning. We're leaving for Alaska. :D :D :D

please send some of it to NC. Weeks upon weeks of 96+, no rain, and very little green anywhere.

It's been hotter than hell here..for Maine it's not normal.

A tornado last night about five miles up the road.

The winter is going to suck BIG time!

I'll trade you a Maine winter for a NC summer any day of the week. Cold you can do something about to keep warm. 98 degrees and high humidity, and nothing helps. At least you have decent ski resorts when the slopes aren't icy.

Hot & dry is nasty, you always worry about brush & forest fires. I live in the woods and a couple of years after we moved here, we had a bad drought. We lost about 50% of our spruce trees. Fortunately the oaks & other hardwoods made it through OK, but now we have a lot of dead trees that can just fuel fires. So I guess I'd rather have all the rain than hot dry weather.

We had a high of 77, sun, no humidity, no clouds, and people are bitching because of the marine layer not burning off before 11am.

It' a little dicey here this morning, it's still raining and will continue throughout the day. The airport is closed due to runway flooding until at least noon. My guess is with the additional rain it probably won't open till tomorrow. So that means we don't get out this morning. Fortunately, we got up early this morning and as soon as we saw the airport was closed I called our airline and got us rerouted through Appleton WI. It's a 2 hour drive there, but at least we'll be in Anchorage tonight. :D :D :D

Portland, I love Maine and have had the pleasure of visiting a few times. We really enjoy the Bar Harbor area. Acadia NP is beautiful, the town is fun, lots of shopping and great food. The whale watching trips are awesome. We also drove up the coast and visited Campobello Island where FDR had a summer home and where he was struck down by polio.

Glad you made it through Everett, I haven't heard from Laurie....I know she lives on the outskirts of town there. My sister lives in southwestern WI and they're just getting deluged with rain :?
