iPod or your phone for tunes?

Went to add a few songs to my iPod over the weekend and couldn't because it said it was full. (Even though I still had about 150 songs left to fill.) My Droid Eris has double the memory as my little "beginner's" iPod so I thought what the heck. I didn't buy this phone to only make calls on. I found it's a little harder or different to manage the music than my iPod and it took me literally 90% of my weekend to transfer the songs over PLUS some of the album work didn't transfer to my phone which is a cosmetic thing but I like it and now can't see some of it.

Here's my question: Would you deal with the changes and start using your phone (if it has that capability) to hear your tunes or just go buy a bigger iPod?

I wouldn't use the iPod if I had a phone that I could play music through. I'm sure you'll get used to it eventually anyway.

I see several people took a look at this but didn't answer so thank you very much for your opinion. I'm not techno savvy like most people are. I somehow ended up with a lot of duplicate songs on the phone that I can't seem to locate on the computer to erase them. I feel like it would just be easier to go buy the new iPod. The way I copied the music (per my phone's instructions) lost the album artwork and when you look at the files on the computer, the songs are all over the place and not listed in any order. I found the best way to do it is through iTunes so now I have to erase half of it and start over. It'll be worth it to me to have everything easily accessible on the computer for me to organize.

I know I can do it on my phone, I've just not really dug into the mechanics of it yet. I'd have to transfer through the micro SD reader adn damned if I even know where it is. I can barely call or text without messing it up. 3 times in one week I sent texts or emails to wrong people by tapping the wrong thing. I think the thingy that senses what I'm trying to touch is off. Either that or i need to file my nails.

It's looking like I'm going to upgrade the iPod. I'm making a mental list of the pros and cons and the pros of getting the new iPod are outweighing the cons.

well, it's just that it's all in itunes when you have an ipod and and an iphone and itunes recognizes both things, so it's the same type of transferring. It does it as quick for the phone as it does for the iphone. You can actually add the same exact playlists you have on an ipod onto the phone in a few minutes. Sorry

See- that's exactly what I was doing. Then my iPod got full. I think that's the way I'd prefer it seeing as how I just went to my phone and realized that ALL of the playlists I had set up are gone. WTH?? All I did was add more music and it erased my playlists.

Pretty much the same method that works on BlackBerry and HTC devices works here. I don't have a droid so I'm not sure where the mount button is but it should be easy to figure out.

These instructions I pulled off the net but it seems to use your Memory card as a mass storage device, just like other phones. If you have the cover art in your music folders it should sync up also.


Step 1
After you make sure you have a MicroSD card installed in your phone, you will need to connect it to a computer via USB cable.

Step 2
Drag the notification bar on your phone and select "USB Connected."

Step 3
Select the "Mount" button on your Droid.

Step 4
PC: go to start>my computer. Then click the "removable device" folder. You can now drag your music files into this folder and it will automatically be installed onto your Droid.

Just copy your music folders over just like you are copying from one hard drive to another.

I use the method with my Blackberry and it only takes a minute, no special software to install or anything like that, I just make sure that my memory card is enabled as a mass storage device under the options on my blackberry. Drag and Drop and everything works including Album Art. The Droid instructions seem just as simple if not easier.

Hmm no it probably was full... the amount of songs listed on the package or wherever is just an estimate. It really depends on the size of your music files, and if you have apps, pictures etc. on it then it won't be able to hold as much music because of the space taken up by those.


Anyway in answer to the question, I'm probably sticking with iPods for the long haul because all of my stuff is already organized via iTunes, so unless I got an iPhone or something else that uses iTunes, I probably won't use a phone as a music player.

I don't have a smartphone, so iPod for me... I like having the stand alone player. I work out with my iPod and transfer it around a lot from car to gym to apartment to other parties and stuff. I don't want to lose my phone and music in one fell swoop because I've brought it to the gym one too many times or just moved it around too much.

Forget the touch screen ipod if you wants LOTS of space I have the 160 GB classic ipod and LOVE it! I have a smartphone and can play music on it just fine, but it drains the hell out of the battery, so I stick with my ipod

I use an ipod for music. My phone holds a great deal of music, but I find that if I use it to play music, and use it as a phone, the battery won't hold out for the duration of the day. I wind up with it on the charger before my work day is out, which with my job is very inconvenient.

Well, I've made up my mind- I'm going with the iPod because of it's convenience and the battery life... I decided on the 16 GB because I couldn't fathom having almost 40,000 songs on there BUT then again- I could see in the long run, at least I'd never have to buy another one if I go with the 160GB.

I use Ipods ...different ipods for different things!! I use the little bitty
clip on for working out and it only holds 500 songs, I think!!
I can't stand stuff wrapped around me or touching me when I'm
sweating!!

I do too. I started thinking and thought about audio books too. I think the Classic will be the one I choose.

my computer.

i don't jog a lot. that would make me short of breath before i hit my neighbors back fence.

we seem to be facinated with how much we can put in our hands, not necessarily the quality of what we put there, or how it would fit a "normal" life. it's like we're on an edge w/o reason and have to justify it.

how do you put music into your car? ipod? phone? usb? sd card? anyone really use a cd anymore?

i just put all my songs on my computer and where i need to hear it from there, i put put. usually some form of storage my denon or pioneer will read. : )
