The forward, reverse motion ...so cool!! But the light show ...waaaay cool!
Being able to view just the movement of his sticks, so impressive!!

I have great respect for this man, and any great drummer out there really.

It takes a lot of skill to be able to add your own "flavor" or touch to a song and learn how to compliment the song rather than overpower it or make it sound repetitious.

Ha! Yeah, I get the impression that he has taken a liking to Hindu. Not only because of his latest musical influences, but his clothing and style, and his passion for playing in the middle east makes me think so. But what do I know.

Which begs the question ... will he be on the next Journey album for a track or two? Neal said they were going in that direction.

I highly doubt it. While Smith is doing more Middle Eastern influenced music, it's more jazz/fusion oriented. His heart and soul are in the new RagaBopTrio that he's now a part of. Nothing about it says rock. Plenty of other rock bands have gone the Middle Eastern direction effectively before, but the sound is not what Smith is producing these days. Wishful thinking, though, SJ!

Doubt this, although a nice thought. What I would like to see though is Smitty show up on Neal Schon's next solo album. That'd be way cool.

Does anyone notice how Deen borrows many of Smitty's live nuances? I love how during "Stone in Love" Deen hits the snare twice after "..old dusty roads...", something Smitty only did live. Quite the sign of respect.

I just watched some of his other vids on youtube- it's interesting to me how he holds the stick differently in his left had when he's playing different types of music- jazz vs. rock for instance. I've gotta say, being a guitarist, I never really noticed drummers until I heard "animal".
