I was in Wally World getting my groceries and meds, and I saw one of my students from when I subbed for half a year. Her teacher (who was my friend) was killed in a car accident during the middle of the year. Since I was certified to teach P-12 the principal, knowing what I did when I filled in for another teacher, asked me to take her place for the rest of the year.
He said the children love you, and they don't need a stranger taking over their room right now.
So, I took her place. It was hearbreaking. These babies cried every day for her. And came to me for hugs and reassurance. They loved having me in her place. I would hold these children and let them cry, and tell me what they loved about their teacher. Sometimes we forget, they need to morn too.
To make a long story shorter..........this little girl was one who took it the hardest. She saw me and her eyes lit up, and she yelled .........."Miss Ginger!" and ran to hug me in the store. I talked to her and her mom, and wished her well in middle school, and told her to do great things with her life. She said she would. Hugged me again, and said, "I love you Miss Ginger." I told her I love you too.
Danny was with me, and I walked around the isle and started crying uncontrollably. I started missing my friend, and felt so badly for those children.
But for a child to be so elated by just the sight of you. To know you did something good in this life.......There is NO BETTER JOB on the planet!
