Because sometimes we just aren't as smart as we like to think we are.

Yeah. Never dreamed I'd be living at home again but unfortunately, my income barely covers my student loans and other necessary bills so rent is out of the question. That's why I haven't really tried dating yet.

Rotten economy is definitely my reason but it's still embarrassing though. This shouldn't be happening to someone who's getting closer to 30.

This is excellent!!

I love it too. I've always been a fan of R. Lee Ermey. Especially at the beginning of Full Metal Jacket.

Some women are attracted to trouble. I have a female relative who keeps landing one married man after another. This has been going on for years and not a good example for her 13 year old son, IMO. So far these guys have all turned out to be abusive assholes.

They're stuck up little wenches who just expect it and heaven forbid they mouth a simple "thank you" for it. And it goes both ways, men too. I open doors for people all the time, or hold them open when needed too, like for elderly and such, or mothers with little ones, especially with strollers because I've been there, done that with my 2 kids. And the fact is, aside from those elderly and moms, I rarely get a thank you back from women OR men when I open or hold open a door. But when it's done for me, I always smile and say thank you, always. So it wouldn't surprise me at all if the reason chivalry has seemed to die off is simply because it's not even appreciated by a lot of people. And I know there are plenty around me who think the same thing. Doesn't mean *I* will stop being courteous or being thankful for it when it's shown to me. But I just think in general these days, a lot of people are just rude and don't care about simple courtesy, and it's all about them.

That's really true. I'm just like you, I always will hold a door for someone, men, women, kids... doesn't matter. And I always thank people who do the same. I mean, if I'm entering a store, and there's someone approaching behind me, I always pause and hold the door, I feel like I'm being a jerk if I don't. It' a polite thing to do... what's it taking out of my day? 4 seconds? And for the most part, I notice others do it too... men more than women, but still. I don't think "chivalry" is dead. I just think some people are selfish and rude, especially in today's world where everyone is on their phone or devoted to their iPod or whatever and not paying attention to the real world around them. And others are just rude jerks, I guess. LOL

I commuted downtown on the train for 6 six years and many many times a guy would offer up a seat on crowded train to a woman. It happened to me a lot... I always would say no, that's ok, but thank you... but usually, they'd insist so what can you do, fight about it? LOL

One time though... a (very) pregnant woman was standing near me and no one, NO ONE offered her a seat, and one guy had his damn backpack on the seat next to him, and he did see her... I saw him look up. I got up an gave her MY seat (and I gave the backpack guy a really dirty look).

Mostly, people are courteous here (yes, even in the big bad city....lol), but once in awhile you run across the rude assholes who just plain don't care to be polite. But you'll have that I guess.

Eric! Wooohooo this is becoming a big topic! I hope that the world does not become such that we forget to be kind to one another. If we join the selfish jerks out there, we add to their ranks. If we think of others, we add to a better place to live. I open doors for folks of all ages and walks of life.

I would give the seat to the pregnant lady BJG talked about even if the buisnessmen are afraid of wrinkling their overpriced suits. The only way to make our world better is one kind gesture at a time.

Dates should be a two way street. She should say thank you if your kind to her. But if she doesn't and takes it for granted, you find something about her true nature. Beauty is nice. And we all want a mate who is attractive, but look for the whole package.

Yeah it's not dead completely, just rare anymore I guess. That's why we were so surprised by how much of it we saw that weekend, since people around here aren't THAT super nice very often, lol

Eric, I promise you, it's a LOT more common than you think in the last several years as the economy has worsened and people are out of work, etc. I can name you off at least 10 (and I think it's more) people that I know over 25 in the same situation you are. It's either debt, or job situation, or both. It's gotten bad.

If you meet someone who has a problem with that, then they aren't a caring understanding person. It doesn't matter what you have or how much of it. If they're out to use you because they think you can pay for things... they're not a good person. That happened to me once. And believe me, I can't pay for things...lol... i'm in debt too.

It's like Angel said, there's a difference. It's not as if you're lazy or jobless and loafing off mom and dad. Working your ass off to get out of debt is a bitch. And it's damn impossible when you're paying rent/mortgage, utilites, car, insurance, etc. on top of it.
