DEFCON 5
This is the condition used to designate normal peacetime military readiness. An upgrade in military preparedness is typically made by the Joint Chiefs of Staff and announced by the United States Secretary of Defense.
DEFCON 4
This refers to normal, increased intelligence and the heightening of national security measures.
DEFCON 3
This refers to an increase to force readiness above normal. Radio call signs used by U.S. armed forces change to currently classified codes.
DEFCON 2
This refers to a further increase in force readiness just below maximum readiness. The most notable time it was declared was during the Cuban Missile Crisis, although the declaration was limited to Strategic Air Command. It is not certain how many times this level of readiness has been reached.
DEFCON 1
This refers to maximum readiness. It is not documented as ever having been used, but it is reserved for imminent or ongoing attack on U.S. armed forces or U.S. territory by a foreign military power.

Stop making shit up. I saw shows with JSS in Chicago and Indianapolis, and the response the band got was tremendous. I'll never forget how into the set the crowd was throughout. Much more invested in the band than the Revelation tour shows in the same spots, even though those shows were good as well. And why the hell do you keep saying "the majority of fans"? Did you talk to 12,000+ of the over 20,000 people at each of those shows?
You are an absolute idiot.

Some people want to make every excuse why Journey had a successful 2 years of touring. The sob story, the sopranos, this, that. How about talent? Maybe they have someone who can sing the fucking songs and sound good.

Chicago had 26,000 in a driving rainstorm the first time Arnel came here. The security guard told me that only Jimmy Buffet draws like that. It would have been sold out, but there were no walk-up sales because of the weather. And I don't think Soto ever played to 20,000 people while with Journey. If so, it was because of Def Leppard. They had the majority of fans on that tour, as they were the headliner. Soto never won any fans over in any meaningful numbers and didn't bring any fans to the band. He didn't sound right and the decision to get rid of him was the right one. The guy's a career pinch hitter. The Richie Hebner of singing. That said, he did an admirable job of filling in but didn't save anyone's ass. Irving would have simply found another guy to fill in.

Raw talent doesn't promote itself. Arnel's inclusion into the band was accompanied by the biggest Journey PR blitz since TBF.
steveo777 wrote:That was in 2008 and I'll bet their tour for 2011 will be as hot as ever in recent years. The PR work might have gotten them back on track but they have to make the fans happy maintain their popularity. They appear to be doing that, save for a few sour grapes. Shame some people are in denial.

I never denied Arnel's popularity with general audiences and the die-hards.

That was a damn good show. I had never seen such a mass of humanity as what was crammed into the lawn that night.

This is true. Arnel doesn't do much for me. Great voice, but his diction issues are annoying and as other fans have noted, he brings an American Idol quality to the stage.steveo777 wrote:and thought the band would have been more successful with JSS fronting it. I get it.![]()
I never said this. Quote me. JSS presented the band the best opportunity to move out from under Perry's shadow creatively. Instead, Neal flip-flopped on everything he said for the past ten years and went straight for a karaoke copycat. In effect, they admitted that they are nothing without the 'Voice', exactly what their Perry-obsessed detractors had said all along.

popular as '86? I know this is a joke...lol!Eric wrote:Monker wrote: Just one stupid ass decision after another...going back for 25 years, at least.
They are still recording new music (a prerequisite for me to be remain a fan) and are as popular as '86 with touring. Some bad decisions, maybe...but they're doing very well. They should be known as one of the greatest bands of all time - and are not - so they definitely have screwed up along the way.

Look at type of venues, number of dates and attendance. Also, the quality of it was better than that rushed pop piece of shit ROR.
